POSITION SUMMARY
The Food Services Coordinator provides leadership and oversight for the district's Child Nutrition Program within a high-poverty Title I district on the San Carlos Apache Reservation. This position ensures that all students have equitable access to nutritious meals that support academic success, health, and well-being.
The Coordinator is responsible for managing and maintaining compliance with all United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) regulations, while integrating culturally relevant practices that reflect the values and needs of the San Carlos Apache community.
JOB GOALS

- Maintain full compliance with USDA Child Nutrition Program requirements
- Operate an efficient, fiscally responsible, and student-centered nutrition program
- Promote culturally responsive meal planning and service delivery
- Support student wellness, attendance, and readiness to learn through nutrition services
QUALIFICATIONS (Aligned to USDA Professional Standards – Small LEA Flexibility)
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in nutrition, food service management, business, or related field preferred
- Minimum of 2–3 years of relevant experience in school nutrition programs, food service, or institutional meal programs
In accordance with USDA Professional Standards (7 CFR 210.30) for School Food Authorities with fewer than 2,500 students, candidates may qualify through one of the following pathways:
- Relevant education in nutrition, food service, or related field, OR
- Progressive work experience in food service management or school nutrition programs, OR
- A combination of education and experience demonstrating the ability to manage program operations
- Valid Arizona Food Handler's Card (or ability to obtain)
- Arizona DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card required

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Administration & Compliance
- Direct and oversee daily operations of the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP)
- Ensure compliance with all USDA, Arizona Department of Education (ADE), and district regulations
- Maintain accurate records for meal counts, eligibility, and program documentation
- Prepare for and coordinate state and federal program reviews and audits
Nutrition & Menu Planning
- Plan and implement menus that meet USDA nutritional guidelines
- Incorporate culturally relevant foods and practices when appropriate
- Ensure meals meet dietary guidelines for health, wellness, and student needs
- Accommodate special dietary needs and medical requirements
Financial Management
- Develop and manage the food service budget
- Monitor revenues, expenditures, and cost controls to ensure program sustainability
- Oversee procurement processes in compliance with federal purchasing regulations
Staff Supervision & Training
- Supervise, train, and evaluate food service staff
- Ensure staff meet USDA annual training requirements under Professional Standards
- Promote a positive, collaborative work environment focused on service and accountability
Food Safety & Operations
- Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation standards (HACCP)
- Conduct routine inspections of kitchens and food preparation areas
- Maintain equipment and coordinate repairs or replacements as needed
Student & Community Engagement
- Promote student participation in meal programs
- Communicate with families and staff regarding nutrition services and program benefits
- Support district wellness initiatives and nutrition education efforts
Additional Responsibilities
- Collaborate with school and district leadership to support student success
- Stay current on changes in USDA regulations and best practices
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Knowledge of USDA Child Nutrition Programs and federal compliance requirements
- Understanding of USDA Professional Standards, including training and qualification expectations for small districts
- Ability to manage food service operations, budgets, and staff effectively
- Knowledge of nutrition, menu planning, and food safety practices
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Ability to work effectively in a rural, high-poverty, and culturally diverse community
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to equity, student wellness, and culturally responsive service delivery
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Twelve (12) month contract
SALARY
Placed on the Governing Board Approved Salary Schedule based on education and experience
EVALUATION
Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with Governing Board policy
