Communications Intern (Unpaid/For Academic Credit)
Position Summary:
The Communications Intern supports the Public Relations Specialist in implementing the district’s efforts to maintain strong community ties, promote transparent information sharing, and foster positive public engagement. This internship provides valuable professional experience and skill development for students seeking a career in communications, public relations, or related fields. Essential Responsibilities:
- Assist in drafting and editing press releases, newsletters, announcements, and promotional materials
- Help maintain and update website content with timely, relevant information
- Support management of the district’s social media accounts (content creation, scheduling, and analytics)
- Assist in designing flyers, graphics, and digital media using tools such as Canva or Adobe Suite
- Provide logistical and communication support for district events, town halls, and community forums
- Help capture and highlight success stories that demonstrate student achievement and district impact
- Assist in monitoring community sentiment and gathering feedback from families and stakeholders
- Support crisis communication efforts as directed
- Perform additional communication-related duties as assigned
The Communications Intern will gain experience in:

- Currently enrolled in a degree program in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field (internship credit may be coordinated through the college/university)
- Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with social media platforms and basic design tools (Canva, Adobe, or equivalent)
- Ability to manage time effectively, take initiative, and work collaboratively
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) proficiency preferred
- Commitment to professionalism, confidentiality, and sensitivity when handling district information
- Schedule: Flexible, based on program requirements and district needs
- Hours: Internship hours will be aligned with academic program requirements
- Compensation: Unpaid (eligible for course credit, if approved by the academic institution)
