School Counseling Coordinator (Part-time)
Description
The Coordinator of School Counselors will provide leadership, guidance, and professional development to school counselors across the division. This role ensures the implementation of a comprehensive school counseling and behavioral intervention program that supports student academic success, career readiness, and social-emotional development.

Qualifications
- Master's degree in School Counseling, Educational Leadership, or a related field
- Valid Virginia School Counselor License (or eligibility for certification)
- Strong knowledge of the ASCA National Model, state counseling standards, and student services programs
- Experience working with diverse student populations and implementing equity-focused initiatives
- Experience working at the High School Level, building and implementing master schedules, is required
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to analyze data to inform program improvements
- Proficiency in using technology and student management systems for data tracking and reporting
Performance Responsibilities
- Develops and implements standardized processes and procedures for delivering a comprehensive school counseling program, ensuring alignment with division policies, legal requirements, and best practices based on national (ASCA) and local standards.
- Provide oversight and coordination of the division's comprehensive school counseling program that is based on data-informed decision-making.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of counseling programs and services.
- Collaborate with school administrators, division personnel, and community stakeholders to enhance counseling services that align with division goals and state regulations.
- Creates clear, written guidelines, manuals, and standardized templates (e.g., counseling logs, contact forms, consent forms) for counselors and staff, and distributes procedures through training sessions, digital platforms, and printed materials.
- Ensure the program addresses the academic, career, and social-emotional development of students.
- Work collaboratively with the Career and Technical Education Coordinator to align career connection exploration activities and experiences for students with the strategic goals of the division and state.
- Provides training, documentation, and ongoing evaluation to support effective, equitable, and data-driven counseling services.
- Facilitate and coordinate the development and monitoring of academic career plans for students as directed by the Virginia Department of Education.
- Support building counselors in the development of the school’s master schedule.
- Support school counselors in implementing and maintaining efforts to help students focus on academic, career, and social/emotional development.
- Monitor and analyze data related to student outcomes, intervention effectiveness, and the impact of the counseling program.
- Assist with crisis response planning and intervention strategies for schools in collaboration with division and community resources.
- Develop partnerships with community organizations, post-secondary institutions, and career development programs to expand student opportunities and create a resource guide to support counselors in accessing local services for students and families.
- Attend state-level meetings to stay informed about legislative updates, trends, and best practices that affect school counseling programs.
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, and evaluating school counselors in collaboration with school principals.
- Provide direct support and consultation to school counselors regarding complex student cases.
- Support the implementation of programs addressing mental health, social-emotional learning (SEL), and behavioral interventions.
- Stay informed about legislative updates and changes that affect school counseling programs.
- Travel to schools and community partner sites may be required.
- Occasional evening or weekend meetings may be necessary for professional development or community engagement.
- Perform such additional tasks and assume other responsibilities as may be assigned or delegated by the school administrator, Assistant Superintendent, or Superintendent.
Physical Requirements
- Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
- Exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone and to enter data into a computer.
- See and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids.
- Hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors, and on the telephone.
- Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in regular classrooms, outdoors, and on the telephone.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds and the ability to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk, and reach overhead.
- Some teaching specialties (i.e., music, art, physical education, etc.) may require hearing, vision, and physical coordination and/or exertion and effort more than those listed above.

Terms of Employment
Position Type: Part Time Hourly, maximum of 32 hours per week.

Job Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the School Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
