Job Title: Color Guard Instructor
Department: Fine Arts    
Reports To: NHS Band Director
Location: Norman Public Schools
Position Type: Adjunct (hourly)

Job Summary:
The Norman High School Band is seeking an adjunct Color Guard instructor. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in color guard performance choreography, preferably with a background in marching band or similar ensembles. Additionally, this role requires collaboration with certified instructors and the ability to work with students, fostering a positive and rigorous learning environment. The candidate should have a passion for the arts and a commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students. 

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare choreography for Color Guard performances for NHS band with input from and collaboration with NHS band staff. 
Choreograph performances for NHS Winter Guard
Attend all color guard rehearsals and band practices (as required by NNHS band director)
Travel with marching band and color guard to performances, contests, and other public events.
Provide active supervision of all students in your care on campus and during off campus events
Regularly communicate with band staff, parents, and students keeping them informed of important events, any changes to schedule, and other necessary information

Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Experience in color guard performance and choreography. Experience with WGI and DCI is an asset.
Previous experience working with students and/or in an educational setting is a plus.
Technical experience with flag-spinning, dance, and other performance techniques, and the ability to teach them to students of varying skill levels
Skills and Abilities:
Strong instructional skills
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to effectively collaborate with instructors and engage with students, and ability to promote teamwork and discipline.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 40 pounds).
Ability to stand, walk, and work for extended periods.


Working Conditions:
Variable hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on performance schedules.
Fast-paced, dynamic environment with frequent changes and tight deadlines.
