Title VI (JOM) Teacher Assistant at Central Elementary School


QUALIFICATIONS:   High school diploma or GED.  Creativity and effective problem solving are important to working with a team to make operation run smoothly and efficiently.  Job requires occasional bending/stooping/squatting/crouching/kneeling, climbing, reaching above the shoulder and pushing/pulling.  Job requires occasional carrying/lifting up to 50 pounds.  Job requires employee to use both hands for repetitive actions involving simple/firm grasping and fine manipulation.  Employee must possess hearing and speaking abilities to monitor equipment and communicate with employees, students, and parents.  The Board of Education and Superintendent may approve alternatives to the listed qualifications.
 
Paraprofessional Certification may be REQUIRED (Coweta Public Schools can help hired applicant obtain this certification).
 
CONTRACT: 175 days, 7 hours per day. Contracted days will be pro-rated to remaining contracted days for the current school year.
BENEFITS: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance and other policies available. This position is eligible to participate in Oklahoma Teachers Retirement.
 
REPORTS TO:  Building Principal or district administration that benefit Native American/Alaskan Students.
EVALUATED BY:  Building Principal
SUPERVISES:  Does not supervise
 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Tutoring Native American/Alaskan students who are not proficient in language arts (English, reading, spelling, etc.) or math.  This should be under the supervision of a certified teacher with limited “pull-out” tutoring.
  2. Do informal grade checks on Native American/Alaskan students.  This should be done at least every five weeks.  
  3. Do attendance checks on Native American/Alaskan students.  Make phone calls to parents to encourage their child's attendance for maximum academic progress.
  4. Coordinate with the Director of Indian Education and/or school counselor any students needing a home visit or additional support. 
  5. Keep an active list of Indian students at respective school sites.
  6. Ensure Native American/Alaskan students have 506 forms and copies of Citizenship cards on file with the District.
  7. Cross-check other school lists to ensure siblings of all Indian students have 506 forms and copies of Citizenship cards on file.
  8. Submit quarterly Staff Reports to the Assistant Superintendent.
  9. Perform other duties described by the building principal or district administration that benefit Native American/Alaskan Students.
