JOB TITLE/ASSIGNMENT

 

Position:  Route Coordinator/Manager 

Qualifications
  • Three years experience as a school bus driver.
  • Working knowledge of the area assigned.
  • Working knowledge of routes and procedures.
  • Valid school bus driver’s license.
  • Demonstrates aptitude for successful supervision of personnel.
  • Demonstrates skills necessary for record-keeping and data collection.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in English communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Department of Education certification as school bus driver trainer.
  • Other alternatives to the above qualifications that the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Job Goal
To contribute to the safe, efficient operation of the Transportation Department by effectively training school bus driver personnel and working with the Director of School Safety, Security, and Transportation to ensure that bus stops are located in accordance with state and local regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

 
 
  • Works with the Director of School Safety, Security, and Transportation to effectively set routes, hire bus driver personnel, and make recommendations regarding the Transportation Department.
  • Works with school administrators and parents, when directed, to resolve transportation problems.
  • Supervise bus driver personnel to carry out the goals of school transportation effectively.
  • Assists in coordinating the sections of the transportation department to accomplish the primary objective of providing smooth, safe, and efficient operations for the Transportation Department.
  • Uses a thorough knowledge of all school bus routes with the ability to recognize and recommend needed changes for improving routes, loading areas, supervision, and discipline problems and initiates such practices when authorized by the Director of School Safety, Security, and Transportation.
  • Maintains knowledge of current state and local laws, School Board policies, and Transportation Department directives and incorporates these into the established training program.
  • Recognizes and recommends needed changes to improve the safety of school bus routes, stops, loading areas, and facilities.
  • Reports, verbally or in writing, to the immediate supervisor, observation of violations of published rules, laws, policies, and directives.
  • Coordinate on-site activities of Transportation’s service records system related to driving, routing, scheduling, and driver personnel.
  • Certifies each driver trainee when he/she feels the trainee has completed all requirements per state laws, Transportation Department directives, and School Board policies and procedures.
  • Maintains close supervision of all drivers and aides while traveling routes, ensuring they comply with all state and local laws, School Board policies, and Transportation Department directives.
  • Receives and checks all reports and records required to be maintained by the driver.
  • Performs other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the immediate supervisor, the
Superintendent, or the board.
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as needed to move objects.  Workers may be required to restrain a physically active individual in an emergency as a temporary safety precaution. Ability to actively work in classroom, office, and other business and community settings. Ability to move freely and perform duties in numerous locations throughout the day (typically involving frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, and lifting). Exposure to noise and activity in a school setting. Exposure to weather conditions. Ability to travel outside the district for a variety of meetings and conferences. 
 
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

 

Calendar Months: 12 Month  
Salary Schedule: Administrative Support Pay Grade: Base
Salary and Benefits are determined and approved annually by the Hendry County School Board.
 
EVALUATION

 

The performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with School Board Policies for evaluation of administrative personnel.
