Job Title: Teacher / Internship Coordinator Location: Newcastle High School Reports To: Building Principal FLSA Status: Exempt Employment Status: Full-Time
Position Summary:
The Teacher / Internship Coordinator will serve a dual role as a classroom teacher and as the primary coordinator for the student internship program at Newcastle High School. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing internship opportunities for students in collaboration with school staff, local businesses, and community partners. The coordinator will ensure that internships align with academic goals and career readiness standards, while also maintaining compliance with school policies and state regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Deliver high-quality instruction in assigned subject(s), aligned with district curriculum and Oklahoma Academic Standards.
Use differentiated instruction and assessment strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate regularly with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues.
Create a positive classroom environment that supports student learning and development.
Internship Coordination: Develop and manage the high school internship program, including recruitment of student participants and business/community partners.
Coordinate internship placements that reflect students’ career interests and academic preparation.
Collaborate with school counselors, teachers, and administrators to identify eligible students and ensure academic credit alignment.
Serve as a liaison between students, employers, and school staff to facilitate communication, resolve issues, and monitor student performance.
Conduct regular site visits and maintain documentation of student progress, attendance, and learning outcomes.
Ensure internship placements comply with applicable labor laws, safety standards, and district policies.
Organize orientation and training sessions for students and employer partners.
Promote the internship program through outreach efforts, including presentations, social media, and community engagement.
Evaluate the effectiveness of the internship program and recommend improvements based on data and stakeholder feedback.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Valid Oklahoma Teaching Certificate in appropriate subject area.
Minimum of 3 years of teaching or relevant professional experience preferred.
Experience in career and technical education, workforce development, or coordinating student programs is a plus.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders including students, staff, families, and community partners.
Knowledge of current labor laws, work-based learning standards, and career readiness frameworks is desirable.
Working Conditions: Standard school environment with occasional travel to local businesses and organizations.
Requires ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends for events or site visits.
May involve lifting up to 25 pounds and standing or walking for extended periods.
