JOB TITLE: Bus Aide
DEPARTMENT: Transportation
REPORTS TO: Transportation Director
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
SUMMARY: The primary duty of the school bus aide is to assist the special education driver in transporting students to and from school safely and efficiently.

- Must be familiar with equipment specific to a handicap bus (i.e. lift, wheelchair tie downs, car seats, harness, etc.).
- Manages situations relative to special students in a professional and confidential manner.
- Assists in providing a safe, controlled atmosphere on the bus.
- Insures all students are properly secured by seat belts.
- Insures all wheelchairs and car seats are properly secured.
- Assists students during loading and unloading procedure.
- Sits among the students to monitor behavior and conversation.
- Promotes fair and reasonable disciplinary practices.
- Treats students and coworkers with respect and dignity.
- Assist the school bus driver in emergency situations and evacuations.
- Develops cooperative and functional relationships with district staff and the public; maintains consistent and punctual attendance; insures job responsibilities are met competently and within established deadlines.
- Assists with special projects.
- All other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Computer literate; excellent written and oral communication ability. Ability to follow all district policies and procedures. Ability to work independently, displaying initiative and enthusiasm for the tasks being done. Demonstrating strong communication skills, orally and in writing, with faculty, staff, team members, and administrators. Ability to work without supervision, and work as a team player. Ability to listen effectively.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret English language. Ability to give instructions in a professional manner.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts and mathematical operations to essential functions of the position.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
LICENSES and REGISTRATIONS: Current driver’s license in good standing.
