Qualifications
This position requires a Utah Administrative/School Leadership License.
Master's degree in job-related field or equivalent, with a minimum of three years in educational administration or job-related experience.
Background experience in building level administration is beneficial, although not required.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities (include, but not limited to)
Under the direction of the Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent is responsible for providing leadership and directing the operation of all San Juan School District schools by working with Directors to implement and provide direction for curriculum and instructional initiatives. The Assistant Superintendent establishes program direction in schools through the creation of structures, plans, and programs for the schools. The Assistant Superintendent advises the Superintendent on issues within assigned areas of responsibility, communicates with the School Board and the community regarding programs, ensures compliance with state and federal regulations, administers budgets, formulates and defines long-range plans and strategies, guides policy development and program design, and coordinates implementation through department staff. Assistant Superintendent works in assigned schools on a regular basis and is highly involved with school administration, staff, building operation, and overall culture and climate of the school.
- Provides overall leadership, direction, and support in the planning, evaluation, improvement, and implementation of San Juan School District’s instructional program. Develops goals, plans, and commitments for instruction that ensures students achieve high academic standards.
- Participates in district level planning and decision making with other District Directors.
- Ensures the Superintendent is kept fully informed on the operations of schools. Provides support and advice to the Superintendent and school principals on curriculum and instructional matters.
- Establishes an effective working relationship with the Board of Education in order to accomplish goals and objectives. Attends school board meetings/work sessions. Prepares and presents reports for the School Board as requested.
- Develops an effective, district wide program of supervision and in-service education of administrative staff.
- Plans and executes district wide goals and programs of curriculum review and development for the implementation of professional learning communities.
- Guides and directs principals in the planning and implementation of effective programs for parents.
- Provides guidance in the selection and use of textbooks and other teaching materials.
- Collaborates and coordinates with all departments as it relates to student learning.
- Prepares budgets, monitors expenditures, and solicits funds to provide financial support for programs.
- Ensures compliance with state/federal regulations and other agencies governing educational programs and services within the assigned area of responsibility.
- Assists in determining staff allocations and hiring needs for positions.
- Participates in the selection of school administrators, certified staff, and additional school staff as needed.
- Evaluates and trains principals in the planning and implementation of effective programs of supervision and evaluation. Assists principals with improving staff effectiveness and any disciplinary or supportive measures.
- Engages in an ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of the instructional programs.
- Conducts observations, assists and advises principals, and evaluates principals annually.
- Others as assigned by the Superintendent or Board of Education.
Placed on the Administrative Salary Schedule
12 month, Range 47 Administrative Salary Schedule 24-25
Hours
Full time beginning July 1, 2025. This is a 12 month, 237 day contract
