EXTRA DUTY JOB DESCRIPTION

 

JOB TITLE:                   Elementary Reading Summer School Teacher

DEPARTMENT:             Teaching and Learning

REPORTS TO:              Summer School Administrator

FLSA STATUS:             Exempt 

CONTRACT STATUS:  Extra Duty

SUMMARY: Teacher with the knowledge and ability to implement the subject matter, philosophical, social, and educational concepts relative to the duties and responsibilities of an elementary teacher. In a variety of teaching and learning platforms (i.e. Google Classroom, face-to-face, virtual, hy-flex, synchronous, &/or asynchronous).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: These statements are intended to describe the responsibilities assigned to this position and are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required.

  1. Teach students utilizing course of study and/or skill sequence adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities according to the goals and objectives of the District which include and are not limited to Oklahoma Academic Standards as stipulated by State Department of Education.

  2. Specifically teach each essential component of reading - phoneme awareness; phonics, decoding, spelling, and word study; oral language development; vocabulary; reading fluency; comprehension; and writing - and the foundational concepts that link these components. 

  3. Adapt the curriculum to provide individual, small-group, or remedial instruction to meet the needs of individual students.

  4. Utilize technology in a variety of teaching and learning platforms (i.e.Google Classroom, face-to-face, virtual, hy-flex, synchronous, &/or asynchronous).

  5. Establish and maintain a standard of students’ behavior needed to provide an orderly productive classroom environment.

  6. Evaluate each student’s progress in the subject area.

  7. Assists with special projects

  8. All other duties as assigned

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  1. Bachelor’s degree

  2. Valid Oklahoma teaching certificate

  3. Current contracted Owasso Public School’s certified faculty.

  4. Experience/training that is preferred, but not required includes one or more of the following:

  1. Certified Reading Specialist

  2. Istation

  3. Really Great Reading (RGR)

  4. Effective Reading Instruction and Intervention Training (DIBELS Phase III)

  5. Literacy First Training

  6. Reading First Teacher Reading Academy

  7. LETRs Foundations

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:  Computer literate; excellent written and oral communication ability; strong knowledge of rules, regulations, policies and laws applicable to education. Ability to follow all district policies and procedures.  Demonstrating strong communication skills, orally and in writing, with faculty, staff, team members, and administrators.  Ability to work without supervision, and work as a team player.  Ability to document records accurately.  Ability to manage confidential information in a manner that respects students, families, and employees.  Ability to listen effectively.  Ability to maintain emotional control under stressful situations and when working with students exhibiting non-compliant behaviors.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret English language.  

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts and mathematical operations.

REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions.  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
