Occupational CTE Teacher, Interim
Medium/Heavy Truck Technology Instructor


Position Purpose:
Bradley County Schools seeks a faculty member for the Medium-Heavy Truck Technology (Diesel Technology) Program at the PIE Innovation Center Campus. This instructor prepares individuals for employment in the field. The diesel technology faculty member will be responsible for all aspects of the credit program to include curriculum development, classroom setup, instructional supply purchasing, tool inventory and accountability, and ensuring the course meets local employer requirements. 

Qualifications:

  • A certificate in diesel equipment technology, a minimum of 3–5 years of diesel-related work experience with demonstrated competencies in the diesel equipment field, and a valid driver's license;
  • Or a high school diploma, a minimum of 3–5 years of diesel-related work experience with demonstrated competencies in the diesel equipment field and a valid driver's license.
  •  A successful candidate must also be service-oriented, work well with business and industry, promote excellence, and demonstrate a commitment to professionalism.
  •  ASE Master Technician in Medium/Heavy Duty Repair preferred.
  •  Must be eligible to teach technical dual-enrollment courses. 
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Extensive Knowledge of Diesel Technology (Medium/Heavy Truck Technology)
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Ability to oversee student field experiences in Medium/Heavy Truck Technology
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills 
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Plans, develops, and uses effective teaching methods and materials which assist students in meeting course objectives, are appropriate for students with diverse educational and experiential backgrounds and learning styles, and engage the students in learning.
  • Maintain regular office hours, grade records
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings
  • Design and develop curriculum within state standards and curriculum guidelines
  • Assist in assessment and placement of students within classes and industry
  • Participate in student recruitment, placement, advisement, and serve on CTE/PIE Center committees
  • Identify student learning outcomes: develop processes and tools for assessment; incorporate results in order to modify instruction and materials in coordination with colleagues
Student Growth and Development: 
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal assessments.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activies as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  • Present a positive role model for students; support mission of school district.
  • Monitors, evaluates, and documents student attendance, progress and competency attainment; submits related reports as required
Classroom Management and Organization:
  • Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
Communication:
  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
Professional Growth and Development:
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Other:
  • Comply with federal, state, and local regulations related to the occupational area assigned.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Direct the work of assigned instructional aide(s).
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
  • Tools/Equipment Used - Personal computer, standard instructional equipment
  • Posture - Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
  • Motion - Frequent walking, lift knuckle to waist 20 lbs., lift floor to waist <10 lbs., carry 20 lbs., push/pull vertical <5 lbs. up to 84 inches, lateral pinch, forward and overhead reach, crouch, neck flexion, extension and rotation, fine motor coordination, hand, and foot coordination ability to be mobile
  • Lifting - Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 llbs.); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment
  • Environment - Work inside, may work inside and outside; regular exposure to noise
  • Mental Demands - Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours
Education/Licensure:
Associate’s degree or high school diploma/GED and equivalent wage-earning experience as required by certification. Demonstrated competency in the career and technical education subject area assigned
