MWMA Mission: Founded upon Montessori philosophy, the mission of Mountain West Montessori Academy is to facilitate student-centered learning and intellectual curiosity through an individualized and interdisciplinary curriculum, hands-on experience, and community involvement.
Position Summary: The Instructional Coach will further MWMA’s mission by building teacher capacity in content and pedagogy through ongoing content-focused professional learning coupled with strategy-specific coaching and feedback plus monitoring and analysis of student learning with the goal of deepening teachers’ content knowledge, improving practice, and elevating student achievement.
Essential Functions: • Support the philosophy and mission of the school • Build strong relationships with teachers, administrators, and staff, working collaboratively and effectively • Facilitate the intellectual and professional development of teachers toward improving student outcomes • Provide encouragement and constructive feedback using 80/20 rule (strength/weakness)
Job Responsibilities and Roles: • Communicate and demonstrate best practice instructional strategies • Provide direction for teaching which is consistent with school protocols, Montessori philosophy, and evidence-based instructional practices • Model and/or co-teach lessons in classrooms • Support teachers in goal setting, data analysis, alignment with school mission, and time management • Develop and implement individualized coaching plans • Conduct informal (non-evaluative) observations to support teacher improvement • Facilitate teacher observation of targeted skills in other classrooms • Create and update observation forms using Observe4Success • Schedule and facilitate discussion sessions and provide support for teachers enrolled in Montessori training • Teach paraeducator professional development • Collaborate with Materials Specialist toward providing breadth and depth of materials for concept attainment • Initiate ASUP meetings, provide follow-up support on teacher’s use of Plan B with students, and collaborate with teachers on behavior management • Provide onboarding support for new teachers and prioritize the development of immediate effective systems and habits in the classroom • Participate in interviewing potential teaching candidates and supervise working interviews, observations, or sample lessons as required • Develop a schedule independently and communicate it consistently to administration through shared calendars in Outlook • Model and foster growth mindset with teachers to cultivate friendliness with mistakes • Provide encouragement and emotional support to teachers • Maintain confidentiality with teachers regarding targeted skills and coaching goals while possessing an understanding of when to inform administration regarding issues of safety, ethics, or concerns that could undermine positive school culture or team collaboration • Attend onboarding orientation meetings for new teachers (prior to prep week) • Attend summer leadership training sessions (retreat) • Keep detailed coaching records • Conduct team coaching cycles with teaching teams using data analysis; assist teams in action research initiatives and alignment of classroom-wide expectations Mountain West Montessori Academy is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
