Hourly Tutor for Indian Education Job Description
Job Title: Elementary Tutor for Indian Education.
Credentials: None required for this position.
Education: High school diploma
Training or experience required: Secretarial-related experience and strong computer background. Experience working with Native American students is preferred.
Site: Indian Education.
Reports to: Director of Indian Education.
Contract: 180

Essential Job Functions:
Effectively manage communications between Indian students, Indian parents, school personnel and Indian Education staff especially as it relates to student attendance and other counseling concerns.
May provide tutoring that will enable Indian students to meet daily academic needs. Students may be tutored in the core curriculum areas with assignments provided by the classroom teacher.
Meet with classroom teachers to identify and coordinate specific instructional outcomes that will have the most impact on achievement.
Meet with classroom teachers at the end of each nine weeks to decide what student progress has been observed, what new approaches would be helpful, and whether students should continue being tutored.
Work with school staff to arrange a meeting room/area for tutoring students.
Monitor attendance reports, ineligibility reports, progress reports, report cards.
Provide information to students regarding high school graduation requirements, college/scholarship recommendations, etc.
Provide orientation to new students regarding program services.
Organize and maintain various files, including confidential student files. Complete Progress Report for each student.
Maintain confidentiality.
Serve as liaison for the Native American students and parents.
Coordinate and collaborate with principal, assistant principal, counselors and teachers to create awareness of Indian students’ academic needs.
Send for students as needed. For example, students that: show up on the weekly ineligibility report; are failing core classes based on the weekly progress reports; have specifically requested assistance.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Successful performance of the job requires good customer service/people skills to resolve problems and provide information as requested. It requires following safety guidelines and policies to reduce accidents or injury to self. It requires following school district dress standards, proper attendance or leave policies, and other work-habits concerns. Creativity, initiative and effective problem solving are important to the success of the position. An incumbent should be comfortable interacting with the general public and news media at all times in a confident and friendly manner. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
