JOB TITLE:                     Instructional Assistant - Indian Education

DEPARTMENT:              Teaching and Learning

REPORTS TO:               Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning

FLSA STATUS:               Non-exempt

CONTRACT STATUS:    Full-time / 10-months

SALARY SCHEDULE:    Paraprofessional I

SUMMARY:     Works as part of a team to provide cultural-instructional support to the Owasso Indian Education Department, district personnel and community patrons and assist in a variety of tasks to enhance the efficient daily operation of the department.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: these statements are intended to describe the responsibilities assigned to this position and are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required.

  1. Identifies, schedules and coordinates cultural events, activities and presentations across the district.

  2. Contacts, greets and assists cultural presenters in a welcoming and efficient manner.

  3. Seeks to build positive relationships and patron experiences.

  4. Identifies cultural supply needs and inventory and provides general care and maintenance of storage facilities and related program supplies and equipment.

  5. Creates and files reports, correspondence, spreadsheets, and other documents required for program cultural reporting.

  6. Communicates in a timely, polite and professional manner, responding to a variety of questions from related personnel, and patrons.

  7. Assists in classroom cultural instruction and presentations.

  8. Maintains consistent and punctual attendance; ensures job responsibilities are met competently and within established deadlines.

  9. Assists with special projects.

  10. All other duties as assigned by the administrator.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent

  2. Experiences with and knowledge of area tribes preferred.

  3. One (1) year of experience in a related field preferred

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Computer literate. Social Media literate. Ability to follow all district policies and procedures.  Ability to work independently, displaying initiative and enthusiasm for the tasks being done.  Demonstrating strong communication skills, orally and in writing, with district personnel, tribal members and team members.  Ability to work without supervision, and work as a team player.  Ability to document records accurately.  Ability to manage confidential information in a manner that respects students, families, and employees.  Ability to listen and follow directions effectively.  

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Ability to read and interpret general written instructions in English language.  Ability to effectively communicate with supervisor, school personnel, and co-workers.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  Ability to perform basic math functions such as addition and subtraction.

 

REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions.  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee regularly is required to sit for long periods of time, stand, and walk. Light to moderate lifting and moving of supplies is required.
