Description

DEFINITION: Under close supervision, provides assistance with the daily activities of the health office and provides first aid to students for Sunnyside Unified School District. Assists with the overall functioning of the health office at the site.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

TASKS:
Administers first aid to students; identifies situations which require further assessment by the supervising nurse, nurse specialist or nurse coordinator; under the guidance of an RN, administers authorized medications; addresses injuries and illnesses; follows appropriate safety procedures to prevent the spread of diseases; maintains medical records and files on students; reviews and updates files for proper immunization and emergency information, notifies parents regarding illnesses, injuries, or concerns as needed; conducts inventories and identifies needed supplies for health office.
 
Schedules and assists in administering vision and hearing tests and recording results in the student file; handles daily health office correspondence; answers phone and greets students, staff and parents at the health office; refers student for further evaluation as necessary or calls 911 when necessary; responds to emergency calls to the playground/field; performs related duties as assigned.
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS TO BE USED IN THIS POSITION:
Knowledge of protocols and procedures related to Health Office at the site.
Knowledge of safety practices, first aid, CPR and immunization requirements.
Skill in the use of a personal computer.
Skill in maintaining confidential records.
Skill in administering vision and hearing tests.
Skill in following oral and written instructions.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
Skill in oral communication and phone etiquette
Ability to summarize information in written form about student-related health incidents
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in an indoor environment. Work requires frequent standing, walking, bending and lifting up to 25 pounds. May be exposed to infectious diseases.  
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of one (1) year experience in a medical or pediatric practice, or previous experience as a school health clerk, or a combination of both.
Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card 
Must possess CPR Certification/Willingness to obtain CPR Certification before start date if hired.
Additional certifications may also be required as specified by the District.

Preferred
Experience working with school-aged children
Bilingual in English/Spanish
 
Depending on the needs of the District, some incumbents in this class must be able to demonstrate fluency in both Spanish and English as a condition of employment.

Salary Grade: H         Hourly Pay: $18.85         Hours per Day:          Days in Contract: 211             Start Date:  2024/2025 School Year            Additional Information: Temporary
