Description

Position Purpose
Under the direct supervision of administration the position of Attendance Aide was established for the purposes of providing support to the instructional process within classrooms with specific responsibility for overseeing students that require intervention for attendance, supporting students academically, documenting student behavior, and providing information to teachers, parents and/or other personnel. The position is used to help students get to class on time and stay in class by accessing strategies and resources within and out of the school.

Essential Job Functions

  • Collaborates with others (teachers, parents, and administrators) for the purpose of implementing and maintaining services and/or programs. 
  • Coordinates program components, support needs and materials for the purpose of meeting District guidelines. 
  • Maintains a variety of detailed records for the purpose of meeting reporting requirements. 
  • Monitors student behavior for the purpose of ensuring a proper learning environment for students. 
  • Supervises assigned students within the classroom during regular school hours. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. 
  • Assists in maintaining documents, files and records for the purpose of informing teachers and/or parents of students' progress. 
  • Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. students, teachers, administrators, parents, etc.) for the purpose of solving problems, providing information and/or directing to other sources
  • Tutors students on assigned class work for the purpose of providing ongoing support in the completion of work assignments.
  • Administer Check-In/Check-Out (CICO) program with students as needed for behavior and attendance intervention in an effort to increase positive adult contact, provide social skills training, link students to school-wide behavioral goals and expectations, provide frequent feedback, access daily home-school communication, provide positive reinforcement for meeting behavioral goals, track students' attendance, behavior, and grades while providing support and follow through where needed, act as a liaison with parents to help in their efforts to get involved in their child’s education.

Travel Requirements

Travel between schools, or between schools and central offices, may be required for certain positions.
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form. 
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and perform arithmetic operations as needed. 
  • Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel). 
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work. 
  • Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required. 
  • Effective writing and verbal communication skills.

Work Environment

  • Works in standard office and school building environments.

Qualifications Profile:
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying.  Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years or older. 
  • Associates degree OR successful completion of 48 semester hours from an accredited institution OR passing score on paraprofessional assessment (offered by the District Office).
  • Prior successful clerical experience preferred.


FLSA Status:  Non-exempt 
 
Contract: 

20 Hours Per Week, 177 days per year-Time Card

Support Professional Employees Salary Schedule, Level E1 (additional pay given for higher education and experience)
