MCMINN COUNTY SCHOOLS                                            
Job Title:          PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHER               Exemption Status: Exempt

Qualifications:
1.)   Holds a valid Tennessee teacher’s license with the appropriate endorsement.
2.)   Has strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
3.)   Meets health and physical requirements.
4.)   No prior experience required, but teachers without experience will be assigned a veteran mentor.
Universal Expectations:
Work with/report to Building Principal to perform the following responsibilities:
1.)   Plans and teaches comprehensive physical education.
2.)   Plans curriculum and prepares lessons and other materials, considering factors such as individual needs, abilities, learning levels, and physical limitations of students.
3.)   Organizes, leads, instructs, and referees indoor and outdoor games or athletic activities.
4.)   Instructs individuals or groups in calisthenics and exercises, determining type and level of difficulty.
5.)   Teaches and demonstrates use of apparatus and equipment to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
6.)   Arranges and adjusts equipment utilized by students.
7.)   Ensures students are dressed appropriately for activities.
8.)   Keeps attendance and grade records as required by the board of education.
9.)   Follow all accommodations and modifications deemed appropriate by an IEP, 504, or administrative agreement.
10.) Arrive to the campus punctually and remain present and engaged for all work hours as determined by principal.
11.)  Work with colleagues to establish and maintain a collaborative environment for planning, delivering, and reflecting on instruction and student data. Attend all building-level and district PLC’s.
12.) Maintain a classroom culture that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity of students. Set standards for appropriate behavior, communication, and mutual respect.
13.) Facilitate learning for students using only Tennessee Curriculum Standards and curriculum that is vetted and approved by the McMinn Board of Education. 
14.) Monitor students’ progress toward mastery of standards and recognize accomplishments as appropriate and applicable.
15.) Maintain and communicate accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, policy, and administrative regulation.
16.) Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
17.) Attend staff meetings, perform extra duties, and serve on committees as required.
18.) Represents the school and the community in a positive manner.
19.) Complies with board policies, school rules, and administrative regulations.
20.) Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
 
Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with evaluation procedures, policy, and regulations of the Tennessee Department of Education.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer; standard instructional equipment; [P.E. teachers: automated external defibrillator (AED)]
Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, reaching/handling, and twisting
Motion: Frequent walking and standing
Lifting: Regular lifting and/or carrying of objects that exceed fifty (50) pounds, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours.
