Job Description:
Southampton County Public Schools is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) Paraprofessional to join our team at Riverdale Elementary School. The ECSE Paraprofessional will provide support to children with disabilities in an early childhood setting, working closely with the ECSE Teacher to facilitate learning and promote positive social interactions. This is a rewarding opportunity for individuals passionate about supporting young children in their developmental journey.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the ECSE Teacher in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students.
- Provide one-on-one and small-group support to children in academic and social-emotional activities.
- Help modify classroom materials and activities to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities.
- Support children with personal care needs, including toileting, feeding, and mobility, as necessary.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages learning and social engagement.
- Monitor and document student progress and communicate observations to the ECSE Teacher.
- Assist with classroom management, ensuring a safe and structured learning environment.
- Collaborate with the ECSE Teacher and other staff members to develop and implement effective strategies for student support.
- Attend training and professional development sessions as required.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree or higher, or completion of at least 60 college credits preferred.
- Previous experience working with young children, particularly in a special education setting, is highly desired.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to work with children who have diverse needs.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers and other staff members.
- Must pass a background check and meet other state and district requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with children with disabilities, including autism and developmental delays.
- Familiarity with early childhood education practices and classroom technology.
