Transportation Routing Secretary
Job Title: Transportation Routing Secretary
Credentials: None required for this position.
Education: High School Diploma or GED

Training or Basic experience with office machines and computers including
experience excel, word, copiers and Google email and sheets.
required: Previous experience in school bus routing systems would be beneficial, but not
required for this position
Must have or be willing to acquire CDL license with Passenger, School bus
endorsements, and State School Bus Driver’s Certification.
The applicant will be required to acquire their CDL within 90 days of
employment. CDL training is provided and paid for by the district.
The applicant must have a High School Diploma or GED certificate
An Oklahoma driver’s license is required.

Essential Job Functions:
-Willing to become a positive influence and join a National Award-winning team. 
- Assist in expediting the transportation requests so that students typically receive
services within 72 hours.
- Receive direct communication from the school sites and administrators as to
transportation needs of students with or without disabilities, and students
attending alternative education.
- Part of the communications skillset requires answering phone calls, voice mail,
and in person consultation with employees.
- Serve as liaison for parents and school employees to transportation.
- Required to communicate at a minimum, with all school employees regarding routing status
and schedules of students.
- Maintain a database of all students that are registered with Norman Public Schools and
assigned transportation services.
- Be responsible for contacting parents regarding current address, pick-up/drop-off
locations/times, and any other pertinent information regarding transportation.
- Perform all primary and collateral duties as assigned by the Director.

Knowledge, Skillas &  Abilities:

Successful performance of the job requires good customer service, people, and communication
skills, and the ability to provide information and technical assistance as needed. This position
requires complying with safety guidelines and policies to reduce accident or injury to staff or to
students. This position also requires following school dress standards, attendance or leave
policies, and NPS Board Policies and Transportation Services SOP. Creativity, initiative and
effective problem solving are critical to the success of the position. Since there may be several
ways to solve a problem, an incumbent is free to choose the best solution. Help manage the
computerization of Transportation Services software programs. Provide training and support to
district staff in the use of Transportation student base computer systems and programs. Perform
such tasks to the ultimate benefit of the Transportation Services programs and the safe
transportation of students. Staff members in this position will utilize discretion, ingenuity and
independent judgment due to the complexity of the job. You must also possess the ability to drive a
school bus, however, the employee’s job is generally in the administrative offices. The applicant
must be able to pass the School Bus Driver Annual Physical in accordance with Oklahoma State
Department of Education requirements. You must have manual/hearing/speaking/vision abilities
sufficient to perform assigned duties, operate computer, use telephone, 2-way radio, communicate
with employees and the public. Employee must have the mental capabilities to handle the day-to-
day stress of the job, apply reasoning and self-control under adverse conditions. Employee is
subject to call out and overtime work. In a workday, the employee may sit 2-3 hours per day; or
stand 3 hours per day; or walk 2 hours per day. Job requires occasional bending/stooping;
squatting/crouching; occasional climbing 3 feet; occasional reaching above shoulder; continuous
pushing/pulling. Job requires occasional carrying/lifting of up to 10 pounds.
