Multimedia Communications Specialist Job Description

 

Job Title: Multimedia Communications Specialist

 

Credentials: None required for this position.

 

Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing, or related field required.

 

Training or experience required:  At least 3 years of experience working in a communications related field. Thorough knowledge in multimedia communication (photography, videography, editing, and writing). Strong social media content and creation, media relations, communication, and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of AP Style. Proficient in Mac programs and image and video editing software such as Photoshop, After Effects, Adobe Premier and Illustrator.

Reports to: Chief Information Officer

 

Contract: 260 days

 

Salary Schedule: Support Off-Scale. Commensurate with experience

 

FLSA Classification:  Exempt

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Photograph district events including classroom activities, extracurricular events like athletics and fine arts, meetings, trainings, and other special projects for use on social media and website, and in printed materials like brochures.

  • Shoot, produce and edit videos for the district’s website, social media and other special events. 

  • Organize and maintain the district’s photo/video library. 

  • Seek out positive stories from across the district and develop and implement creative, consistent and engaging content delivery strategies. 

  • Assist with the district's social media including content creation, posting and monitoring.

  • Assist with writing news releases, newsletters and other marketing materials.

  • Maintain positive interpersonal communications with news media, parents, students, visitors, personnel and Board of Education members. Provide timely and accurate responses to requests.

  • Participates in meetings and special events as assigned.

  • Perform all tasks with urgency, sensitivity, confidentiality and professionalism.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Successful performance of the job requires a high standard of professionalism along with creativity, initiative and effective problem solving. The candidate should also be comfortable interacting with all levels of the organization, as well as the general public and news media. The position requires basic photography, videography and editing skills.

 

It requires following school district dress standards, proper attendance or leave policies, and other work-habits concerns. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
