Short-Term Suspension Room Monitor
 
Description
The Short-Term Suspension Monitor is responsible for supervising and supporting students assigned to short-term suspension within an alternative education setting. This role ensures a safe, structured, and supportive environment where students can continue their educational activities and work on behavioral improvement plans.

Alternative Education Program Coordinator
 
Qualifications

  • Must possess a bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, education, or a related field with some related experience providing services for school aged children; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the noted knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Experience working with students in an educational or behavioral support setting preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor in challenging situations.
  • Understanding of positive behavior interventions and supports.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of students and staff.
 
 
Performance Responsibilities
  • Supervise students assigned to short-term suspension, ensuring their safety and compliance with school policies.
  • Maintain a structured and orderly environment conducive to learning and positive behavior.
  • Monitor students as they perform assignments prepared by the classroom teacher.
  • Assist students with their academic work, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Coordinate with teachers to obtain assignments and instructional materials for students.
  • Ensure that students complete their assignments and understand the material.
  • Implement and reinforce positive behavioral interventions and supports.
  • Monitor and document student behavior, providing feedback and guidance to encourage positive changes.
  • Alert the program coordinator to any problem or special information about a student.
  • Work with students to develop and implement behavior improvement plans.
  • Maintain regular communication with teachers, counselors, and administrators regarding student progress and any issues that arise.
  • Collaborate with school staff to ensure consistency in behavior expectations and academic support.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, assignments, and behavioral incidents.
  • Process intake and release forms.
  • Prepare reports as required by the school administration.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of protected student and staff member information even after no longer employed.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development related to student behavior management, academic support strategies, and other relevant topics.

Terms of Employment
Contract Length – Ten Months
FLSA Status-Non-Exempt
Salary to be established by the School Board in accordance with the Classified Salary Scale.
 
 
Evaluation
Job performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the School Board’s policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
