The license position area must be in one of the following areas: Early Intervention Specialist, Educational Diagnostician, Emotional Behavior Disabilities, Learning Disabilities, Mild/Moderate Disabilities, Special Education (General).


Position Overview: The Special Education (SPED) Director is responsible for overseeing and leading the special education programs within the Salt Lake Academy. This role involves ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, developing and implementing policies, and providing support and guidance to special education staff. The SPED Director will work collaboratively with educators, administrators, parents, and the community to enhance the educational experience and outcomes for students with disabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management: *Provide visionary leadership for the special education department, setting clear goals and expectations. Supervise and support special education staff, including teachers, paraprofessionals, and specialists. Develop and manage the department budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively.

Compliance and Program Development: *Ensure the school's special education programs comply with all federal, state, and local regulations. Develop, implement, and review special education policies and procedures. Stay current with changes in special education law and best practices.

Student Services: *Oversee the identification, evaluation, and placement of students with disabilities. Ensure the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that meet the unique needs of each student. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of special education programs and services.

Collaboration and Communication: *Collaborate with general education staff to promote inclusive practices and ensure access to the general curriculum for students with disabilities. Serve as a liaison between the school and parents/guardians, addressing concerns and facilitating communication. Foster relationships with community agencies and organizations to support students with disabilities.

Professional Development: *Plan and deliver professional development opportunities for special education staff. Support staff in implementing evidence-based instructional strategies and interventions. Promote a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
