Cafeteria Assistant Manager
 
Description
To ensure students are served attractive and nutritious meals in a friendly, clean and efficient atmosphere.
 
Qualifications

  • Ability to design nutritious meals in accordance with federal and state guidelines.
  • Competence in the use of computers.
  • Ability to supervise staff and organize a food service program.
  • Education commensurate with the skills necessary to manage a food service program.
  • Completion of a high school program of studies.
 
Reports To
Cafeteria Manager in cooperation with the Food Service Coordinator
 
Qualifications  
Performance Responsibilities
  1. Know and effectively communicate the Division philosophy and mission.
  2. Serve as acting manager at all schools during a prolonged absence of the current manager.
  3. Assist in the training of new employees.
  4. Assist in the preparation of food.  Clean and organize the cafeteria counter.
  5. Daily duties that will rotate such as serving students, cashier, runner, and dishwasher.  Duties rotate weekly.
  6. Remove used dishes and assist in the cleaning of counters, tables, and furnishings in the dining area.
  7. Perform the daily close-out and deposit.  Compile reports.
  8. Retrieve temperatures and log all cooling/heating equipment daily, such as, milk coolers; ice cream coolers, reach-in refrigerator, hot holding cabinets, etc.
  9. Assist in maintaining the weekly/monthly inventory for weekly orders.
  10. Maintain the trash and garbage collection area in a neat and sanitary fashion.
  11. Assist in the organization and storage of food, supplies, and equipment.
  12. Perform related duties as required including duties at special meal functions.
  13. Assist in keeping all areas in the kitchen and dining area neat and clean.
 
In the absence of or at the request of the Cafeteria Lead the Assistant Lead will:
  1. Develop menus by using the Food Buying Guide for School Food Service, recipe cards, other proven recipes, forecasting information, and suggestions submitted by students, teachers, administrators, and parents.
  2. Perform a pre-cost analysis of each NEW menu item before using it in a menu and perform a cost analysis of each menu combination at least twice a year.
  3. Order the necessary foods, materials, and supplies from approved sources to supplement U.S.D.A. commodities.  Coordinate delivery dates with menus.
  4. Routinely inspect all items received from local distributors and compare items to the original order to ensure accuracy with respect to quantity, quality, and cost.
  5. Maintain an accurate inventory of all U.S.D.A. commodities, purchased foods and supplies, and cafeteria equipment and materials.
  6. Maintain a clean facility with respect to the kitchen area, the dining area, the storage area, and the garbage collection area.  Proper sanitation practices recommended by the school administration and the State Health Department must be observed at all times.
  7. Periodically inspect cafeteria workers to insure proper dress and adherence to proper personal hygiene practices.
  8. Supervise cafeteria workers to ensure that proper procedures are followed when serving food to students with respect to serving size, number of items served, collection procedure for free and reduced price meal recipients, collection of money from paying students, and the tray count at the point of serve.
  9. Coordinate menu planning and help with the preparation and serving of food for special school functions.
  10. Ensure that all food trays and eating utensils are properly cleaned prior to each serving.
  11. Clean and properly store all food, supplies, materials, and equipment prior to school closing for all holidays and vacations.
  12. Assist the Food Service Coordinator in evaluating the performance of each cafeteria worker.
  13. Maintain all kitchen equipment is maintained in proper operating condition by reporting any malfunctioning equipment to the Food Service Coordinator.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned by the Cafeteria Manager, Building Administrator, Cafeteria Coordinator, Director of Operations, or Superintendent.
 
 
Physical Requirements
  • Must have the ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer.
  • See and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids.
  • Hear and understand speech at normal levels, indoors, outdoors and on the telephone.
  • Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in the school cafeteria setting and on the telephone.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

  • Physical ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, to stoop, to walk and to reach overhead.

Terms of Employment
Contract Length-Ten Months
FLSA Status-Non-Exempt
Salary to be established by the School Board in accordance with the Classified Salary Scale (Assistant Cafeteria Manager).
 
Evaluation
Job performance will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the School Board’s policy on the evaluation of personnel.
