POSITION:     Director of Behavioral Support Services
 
Salary/Hours:                                     
  • Pay scale: Grade 20
  • Position Length: 12 months
  • Hours: Full time unless otherwise specified
 
JOB SUMMARY:  Lead and support behavioral programs in all schools including discipline, threat assessment, and school counseling programs.
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Master’s Degree in Education required.
  • Endorsement in Administrative/Supervision K-12 required.
  • At least three years of experience as a school-level administrator (principal/assistant principal) required.
  • Knowledge of disciplinary practices, laws, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of school counseling programs.
  • Knowledge of behavioral intervention planning.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
 
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: (including but not limited to the following)
 
  • Maintain compliance with School Board Policy, laws, codes, and regulations related to student discipline.
  • Develop policies and regulations in the area of student discipline, counseling, threat assessment, and behavioral interventions.
  • Update, provide training, and publish the Student Code of Conduct in coordination with the Supervisor of Student Services. 
  • Assist campus administrator’s consistent administration of the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Work directly with school administrators to transition students into and out of the division/placement.
  • Conduct thorough, impartial investigations at the direction of the Executive Director of Human Resources and Administrative Services.
  • Serve as the Superintendent’s designee/Hearings Officer for disciplinary action (due process) and Review of Disciplinary Action (appeals).
  • Act as the coordinator of the division-level Threat Assessment Team. Meet regularly with members of threat assessment teams to ensure best practice.
  • Maintain MPCS Threat Assessment Protocol. Complete all required state data collection related to threat assessment.
  • Develop and monitor programs and initiatives to address student needs in the area of student discipline and behavior management.
  • Oversee division-wide Social Emotional Learning program (SEL).
  • Oversees the school counseling program at all levels to ensure proper training and implementation for the K-12 School Counseling Student Services Plan.
  • Research and create a foundation for multi-tiered systems of support in Manassas Park City Schools.
  • Collaborate with school leaders by overseeing and coordinating the framework for social-emotional, and behavioral components.
  • Develop and lead behavioral intervention teams in supporting positive outcomes for students and families with unique learning, social-emotional, and behavioral needs.
  • Develop and coach principals, assistant principals, and members of school-based teams to provide the appropriate level of day-to-day support in the area of student behavior, discipline, counseling and threat assessment.
  • Manage, analyze, and utilize student data (i.e., scoring probes, scheduling data collection, using collected data to drive student supports)
  • Complies with all school laws, State Board of Education regulations, and all policies and regulations made by the School Board and Superintendent.
  • Performs all duties deemed necessary by the School Board and Superintendent for the efficient and successful operation of the school system.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
 
Must have the ability to effectively communicate and interact with other staff and the public through the
use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment such as, but not limited to, a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions will be required.
