Job Summary:

The Student Numeracy Interventionist is responsible for facilitating Tier II numeracy interventions at a Title I junior high school, Granite Park Jr. High. The remainder of their contract time is supporting other Title I schools in providing professional development and numeracy coaching, as well as receiving training as a part of a cadre with other elementary numeracy interventionists. 

Essential Functions:
 
  • In collaboration with the classroom teacher, utilize the GSD Decision Tree to plan and provide small group instruction and support for students in need of intervention based on Utah Core Standards that support/align teachers’ reteaching plan. This instruction is initiated, monitored, and adjusted based on student data and guided by evidence-based practices.
  • Facilitate student achievement data in response to interventions with progress monitoring that tracks students’ response to interventions, share these data in a timely manner with teachers and administration. 
  • Support school’s Multi-Tiered Systems of Support under the direction of the building principal.
  • Collaborate with teacher teams on the instructional planning of interventions and student progress in response to interventions.
  • Provide paraeducators and other instructional support staff with lessons and materials for small group instruction and support.
  • Provide coaching to teachers on research-based intervention and other tools for classroom instruction to close learning gaps.
  • Provide professional development experiences in curriculum, instructional strategies, differentiation and assessment for math content in multiple modalities.
  • Communicate with parents through conferences, telephone calls, e-mails, student planners, school website, and other appropriate means, to discuss the students’ progress.
  • Communicate and cooperate with other professional staff regarding the student’s academic and personal growth areas.
  • Maintain professional competence through professional learning activities provided by the school district and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Participate in committees and task forces.
  • Participate in appropriate educator evaluation procedures as per district guidelines.
  • Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, colleagues, and members of the community.
  • Understand and adhere to laws, district policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, school staff, district staff, and members of the community.
  • Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission.
  • Provide and maintain a safe and supportive environment in the classroom and on the school campus.
  • Participate in faculty meetings as required.
  • Be a positive role model.
  • Attendance, physical presence, and timeliness are essential functions of this position.

Required Knowledge and Skills:
 
  • Knowledgeable with evidence-based practices in providing student support and interventions
  • Familiar with Utah State Core Standards can plan Tier I and Tier II instruction to allow for students behind grade level to reach proficiency on these standards
  • Aligns assessment practices with GSD tools and ELA and Math Decision Trees. 
  • Data competencies that allow for effective tracking of students’ mastery of core standards and other instructional decisions
  • Strong interpersonal skills that foster collaboration with administrators, teachers, teacher teams, paraeducators, and other staff members
  • Solid understanding of evidence-based instructional practices
  • Competencies in designing lessons using GSD Instructional Framework
  • Ability to plan for and provide small group instruction using established routines and procedures
  • Experience working as part of a collaborative Professional Learning Community
  • Proficiency with various forms of technology, including Excel
  • Facilitate positive learning environment for students with diverse needs and backgrounds
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Be flexible in response to the dynamic needs of students, teachers, and school
  • Motivated, self-directed individual 
  • Experience with proficiency-based learning and grading
  • Demonstrating/modeling teaching math strategies
  • Supporting district-wide programs and initiatives
  • Understanding of Granite’s proficiency-based teaching and grading.

Required Education and Qualifications:
 
  • Requires a Utah State Board of Education (USBE) cleared criminal background check.
  • Requires one of the following:
    • a valid Professional Educator License issued by the Utah State Board of Education with an Elementary license area of concentration; or
    • an equivalent license in another state.
  • An Elementary Mathematics or Math Level 2 endoresement is preferred.

    • a valid Professional Educator License issued by the Utah State Board of Education with any license area of concentration; and one of the following endorsements:
      • Middle School Mathematics;
      • Secondary Mathematics;
      • Math Level 2;
      • Math Level 3; or
      • Math Level 4; or
    • an equivalent license in another state.

Required Prior Experience:
 
  • Requires a minimum of three (3) years of classroom teaching experience.
