Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the School Principal and CTE Director, follows Utah State Board of Education (USBE) and Tooele County School District (TCSD) standards to develop students' awareness and understanding of the field of Computer-Aided drafting.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid professional state of Utah Secondary teacher license and CTE endorsement for CAD Architectural OR CAD Mechanical or have the ability to obtain a current Utah teaching license as outlined by the guidelines of the Utah State Office of Education (USBE).  For information on obtaining a License please go to https://www.schools.utah.gov/licensing.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Ability to pass a fingerprint and background check
  • Professional communication skills
  • Valid Utah driver’s license  

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the related field of computer-aided design and drafting.

Essential Functions
  • Teaches high school student courses in computer-aided design using an industry relevant rendering program such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Revit or another program. Courses would include CAD Architectural and CAD mechanical design courses consistent with USBE and TCSD goals and objectives. 
  • Would need a working knowledge and understanding of drafting design principles and understanding of industry rendering programs.
  • Must have the ability to communicate and the ability to instill industry related concepts and skills to students in a productive learning environment.
  • Teaches knowledge and incorporates active and applied learning in the course (hands-on and lab activities).
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student growth and progress in educational activities, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Coordinates the CTE student organization activities for region, state and national competitions.
  • Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Uses standard office equipment such as personal computer and experience in teaching in a lab environment.

Travel Requirements
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of industry design software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks or Revit.  
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Work Environment
Works in standard office and school building environments.

Qualifications Profile
Applicants must have a current Utah teaching license or have the ability to obtain a current Utah teaching license as outlined by the guidelines of the Utah State Board of Education (USBE).

  • USBE License Level: Professional AEL or LEA Specific 
  • USBE License Area and/or Endorsement: Secondary Education (6-12); CTE CAD Architectural License Course Specific
  • USBE License Endorsement: CTE CAD Architectural OR CAD Mechanical
  • Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.

  • BS Degree from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.

Successful prior teaching or student teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.

FLSA Status: Exempt
Full time, 187 days per year, paid over 12 months
Certified Salary Schedule
Benefit eligible at a full time, certified rate
8 days sick and 4 days personal leave
