Description

School Mission Ignite Entrepreneurship Academy (IEA) is a K through 8th grade Montessori/blended learning school whose mission is to promote entrepreneurial skills and success through academic rigor, project-based learning, and creating a culture of collaboration, accountability, and creative problem solving Position Summary Student Support Services The student support specialist will work closely with the administration to strengthen the implementation of IEA’s Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) and assist in a wide range of student and safety support processes, including: addressing student behavior, behavior data collection, assessment, development of behavior support plans, assisting staff in the use of positive behavior support techniques, and monitoring student progress. The position is also responsible for providing consultation services to school personnel regarding student needs, staff and student safety, assisting with positive behavior interventions. The student support specialist will meet with students individually and in groups to address behavior. Essential Job Functions: •Work with school staff to address student behaviors and safety. The process includes, but may not be limited to: a. Identify/define problem behavior b. Collect, analyze and summarize information and data on student behavior using interview and direct observation tools. c. Identify factors contributing to the behavior d. Formulate a hypothesis regarding the conditions under which the behavior usually occurs, probable consequences that serve to maintain the behavior, and likely function the behavior serves for the student. e. Collaborate with staff to write and implement positive behavior support plans. •Work with school staff to identify students’ strengths and skill deficits specifically interfering with educational achievement. •Consult with school staff to provide techniques, methods, and strategies to support students’ development of appropriate replacement behaviors. •Assist with monitoring student progress and make recommendations for on-going service as appropriate.

•Provide individual and group consultations for identified students. •Assist with de-escalation of agitated students. •Meet regularly with the school principal, school counselor, and key staff to communicate student needs, progress, and general observation and consultation regarding behavioral needs and practices among school staff. •Serve as a consultant and collaborator with educators in the school; keep personnel informed of relevant information regarding students. •Establish and maintain excellent relationships with the school staff, working especially closely with the school counselor. •Know and promote the guidelines, policies and procedures in the school’s student handbook and adhere to IEA policies. • Adhere to ethical and professional boundaries, obligations, and standards. • Advocate for the students’ best interests within the school setting. •Maintain confidentiality, relevant case records, statistics, and direct contact records. •Perform related duties as assigned.
