Counselor - 24/25 SY
DEFINITION: The school counselor develops, manages and implements the Comprehensive K-12 School Counseling Program, through both direct and indirect student services, aligned with the ASCA National Standards. School counselors will promote student success through the implementation of a comprehensive school counseling program which addresses academic, career, and social-emotional needs of students. The school counselor also supports school wide college and career readiness efforts.

Develop and implement a comprehensive school counseling program based on the ASCA National Model: A Framework for School Counseling Programs, which monitors student progress. Maintain accountability within a comprehensive school counseling program based on the ASCA National Model including collaboration with the administration and faculty members to regularly make data-informed, evidence-based, counseling decisions. Spend 80% or more of documented time on direct and indirect services to students. Provide direct services to students which typically include: instruction of core curriculum, group activities promoting academic and social/emotional development, individual student academic, college and career planning, responsive services in individual or small group settings, and crisis response support. Indirect services to students typically include: consultation with parents, teachers, educators, and community organizations; collaboration with educators, parents, and the community in regards to student achievement; and referrals for students and families to school or community resources.
Assist students in crisis situations and refer to district or community resources when appropriate.. Remain current with federal laws, state statutes, and district policies related to student safety and to college and career readiness. Remain current with postsecondary college and career opportunities and best practices, including changes to college admission and financial aid criteria (especially, but not limited to FAFSA) if applicable.

Knowledge and skills in the areas of youth development, family systems.
Ability to work with diverse populations and cultures.
Ability to develop and maintain cooperative and effective professional relationships with teachers, administrators, parents, students.
Ability to collect and analyze student data to inform program delivery.
Skill in implementing counseling theories.
Skill in conflict resolution, mediation, and responding to crisis situations.
Skill in planning and implementing academic success and lesson plans.
Understanding and familiarity with computer applications
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in an indoor environment. Work requires frequent sitting, repetitive motion, and vision to monitor and may require some lifting.
Guidance Counselor certification from the Arizona Department of Education.
Depending on the needs of the District, some incumbents in this class must be able to demonstrate fluency in both Spanish and English as a condition of employment.
