Description

Position Purpose

 

-  Under the general supervision of the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, to develop, coordinate, support and evaluate the District's educational programs in mathematics, and to serve as a resource and consultant for teaching staff to improve students' success in mathematics.

 

 

Essential Performance Responsibilities

 

-  Provides direction, consultation, and coordination to ensure comprehensive and sequential curriculum and instruction in mathematics.

 

-  Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and assists teachers in modifying instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs to reach or exceed reading standards and goals.

 

-  Organizes and coordinates mathematics curriculum development activities, including preparation of curriculum guides, resource units and courses of study.  Assures the integration of these areas with the other curricula in the District.

 

-  Documents teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes, develops lesson plans, models the necessary skills to perform assignments; assesses and provide feedback to administration and teaching staff  regarding student progress and achievement and the effectiveness of District mathematics curriculum.

 

-  Maintains familiarity with district and Connecticut State standardized tests for the purpose of adapting curriculum to maximize student achievement on such tests.

 

-  Provides for continuing improvement of instruction through professional development, cooperation with building administrators, teacher observations and classroom visits.

 

-  Supports the introduction and utilization of innovative teaching materials and techniques in line with best educational practices.

 

-  Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for related student activities and achievement as required by district procedures and applicable laws.

 

-  Maintains liaison with the State Department of Education, local universities and state and national professional organizations in reading.

 

-  Coordinates the selection, inventory and ordering of texts, teaching aids, software, supplies and equipment.

 

-  Encourages parental involvement in students' education and the benefits of learning mathematics, and ensures effective communication with students and parents.

 

-  Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.

 

-  Keeps current of developments in mathematics and provides staff members with assistance and instructional material as appropriate.

 

-  Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.

 

 

Additional Duties

 

-  Assumes other responsibilities as specified by the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, and the Superintendent of Schools.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

-  Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.

 

-  Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.

 

-  Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.

 

-  Knowledge of a wide range of mathematic subject areas, including arithmetic equations, calculus, trigonometry, geometry, and other related areas.

 

-  Ability to lead a professional teaching staff in the area of mathematics.

 

-  Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.

 

-  Ability to prepare oral or written communications, such as presentations, reports, memoranda, letters, grant proposals, curriculum documents, workshops and evaluations.

 

-  Ability to organize and coordinate work.

 

-  Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.

 

-  Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.

 

-  Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

 

 

Travel Requirements

 

-  Travels to all school district buildings, city/state agencies and professional meetings as required.

 

 

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

 

-  Works in standard office and school building environments.

Qualification Profile

 

Certification/License:

- Oklahoma State Certification as a Mathematics Teacher 

 

 

Education

 

-  Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.

 

-  Masters Degree in related area preferred.

 

Experience

 

-  Successful prior teaching experience in Mathematics.

 

-  Demonstrated knowledge of the needs of all students and the community in mathematics.

-  Leadership experience, including professional development training for staff, in mathematics.
