POSITION: Speech Language Pathologist
Salary/Hours:
- Pay scale: Teacher Salary Scale: https://www.mpark.net/departments/human_resources
- Position Length: 10 months/205 days
- Hours: Full time unless otherwise specified
- Location: To be determined based on student need
JOB SUMMARY:
The Speech Language Pathologist assists in developing speech and language skills to facilitate the personal, social and intellectual development of students. The Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for conducting speech and hearing screen evaluations and implementing appropriate speech and language services for students Preschool-12th grade.
REQUISITE EDUCATION AND SKILLS:
- Must hold a master’s degree or higher and hold a speech language pathologist license issued by the Virginia Board of Audiology and Speech- Language Pathology
- Ability to develop IEP goals and objectives and align with SOL’s,
- Ability to use augmentative communication and assistive technology devices,
- Ability to develop effective relationships with students, parents and school personnel,
- Possess knowledge of the Virginia regulations governing special education programs for students with disabilities,
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: (including but not limited to the following)
- Conducts speech/hearing screenings
- Follows the timelines and completes the paperwork for determining students' eligibility for the Speech or Language Impairment program and the need for speech therapy as a related service
- Develops an appropriate Individualized Education Program for each student, and implements it according to State regulations
- Provides appropriate speech and language services for Pre-K-12 students,
- Develops and implements interventions in the classrooms to address special needs and concerns,
- Consults with teachers regarding the Speech or Language Impairment program general information, as well as specific information on students on the caseload to enhance the academic experience of individual students and to promote scholastic achievement in the educational setting,
- Participates in the Individualized Educational Plan meetings when requested to assist in the development of an appropriate educational program,
- Conferences with parents, teachers, community professionals and students, where appropriate to explain results and discuss implications for instruction,
- Presents professional development opportunities for school faculty, as warranted
- Maintains and inventories equipment and materials in good condition,
- Adheres to state, federal, and local laws and regulations governing the education of students with disabilities,
- Performs other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the ability to effectively communicate and interact with other staff and the public through the
use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment such as, but not limited to, a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions will be required.
