Working at Soldier Hollow Charter School
Soldier Hollow Charter School (SHCS) is a public charter school located in the beautiful Heber Valley. SHCS is a K-8 school with two classes per grade and a student body of about 330 students. We follow state curriculum standards and use research based, nationally accredited school curriculum for reading, math and science. Last year SHCS was one of the highest performing charter schools in the state of Utah. Our teachers participate in ongoing professional development, work in grade level teams and are frequently utilized to help identify areas that can be improved in the classroom and school. We boast small class sizes with at 21 to 1 student teacher ratio, outdoor learning spaces, cross country ski program, outdoor learning field experiences, and overnight field trips for 4th through 8th grade students. Our mission is to create a school that utilizes place based education to foster autonomous life-long learning through knowledge of and responsibility for the environment. At SHCS standards-based grading holds students accountable for mastery and sets high expectations that students stretch to accomplish. We have a culture of utilizing data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction to meet students’ learning needs.
