Maintenance Spraying Specialist - Certified Qualified Party (23/24 SY)
Description
DEFINITION: Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Maintenance or his/her designee, the Lead Spraying Specialist or otherwise known as “Qualified Party” shall be charged with direct oversight of the Districts herbicide program and shall ensure all spraying for weed control follows Federal and State laws within the confines of the Sunnyside Unified School District.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

TASKS:

Maintains records of herbicide acquisitions, storage, disposal and current inventory; reviews herbicide inventory, including herbicide stored on a service vehicle to determine compliance with labels, labeling, and state rules; review the training, supervision, and equipping of applicators employed by the District; performs a review of office records and procedures to determine compliance recordkeeping and reporting; performs weed spraying, purchases, secures, dispenses, controls, posts, protects and works closely following Federal and State laws governing weed control use.
Performs the full range of maintenance duties associated with the construction and/or repair trades in a school setting, including the ability to work independently under general supervision, exercising good judgment and initiative, and operate all equipment required to successfully perform assigned tasks.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
Knowledge of District policies and procedures.
Knowledge of maintenance manuals and weed spraying techniques.
Knowledge of maintenance and weed spraying equipment.
Knowledge of federal and state laws governing weed control use
Skill in the safe operation of weed spraying and maintenance tools.
Skill in following oral and written instructions.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in an outdoor environment. Work requires frequent driving, standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs. May be exposed to moving equipment, weed spraying chemicals/equipment, hand tools, extreme weather conditions, toxic fumes, harmful dust, air particles and infectious diseases.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma
Must hold and maintain a pest control Qualified Party” license as required by A.R.S. & 32-2312, A.A.C. R4-29-302(B) and R4-29-204
Three (3) years minimum experience in certified weed spraying
Must possess an Arizona driver’s license
PREFERRED:
(3) three years maintenance trades experience in general school settings.
Depending on the needs of the District, some incumbents in this class must be able to demonstrate fluency in both Spanish and English as a condition of employment.
Salary Grade: K Hourly Pay: $20.50 Hours per Day: 8 Days in Contract: 260
