Description

This opening is for the 2023/24 School Year.

Summary/Objective

To work with school-aged children, their parents, teachers, and school administrators to help students cope with a wide range of issues and perform well academically. The school social worker will perform duties that may include, but are not limited to: conducting assessments of children's welfare, education experiences, and family and community settings to make plans to meet their individual needs and plan interventions as necessary in coordination with a whole support team of educators, family, and community members; helping students resolve issues like bullying, school absences, and other conflicts; supporting students in coping with disabilities, behavior management, and mental health issues; and, counseling students on issues they may be experiencing.

Essential Functions

1. Respond to all internal and external customers, as it relates to job, in a prompt, efficient, friendly, and patient manner.

2. Interview students individually, in families, or in groups, assessing their situations, capabilities, and problems to determine what services are required to meet their needs.

3. Develop individualized service plans for students.

4. Attend educational planning meetings.

5. Counsel students regarding issues including mental health, substance abuse, physical abuse, educational, vocational and interpersonal issues.

6. Counsel parents on available school and community resources to support their child.

7. Serve as an advocate for resources for students and families.

8. Report any suspected issues of child abuse and neglect.

9. Maintain case history records and prepare reports.

10. Provide behavior management training to certified staff.

11. Maintain the confidentiality of all protected information even after no longer employed.

12. Maintain knowledge of and adhere to all policies, regulations and rules.

13. Perform related duties as assigned in a safe and prudent manner.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, contracted for 162 days between July and May. Employee will work ten hours per day Monday through Thursday. Employee may need to work extended hours.
