Description
This position serves as the department head for special education and will supervise: 5-6 full-time department teachers ,1-2 department paraprofessionals and all contracted service providers. The director's daily responsibilities will include both supervisory and some teaching responsibilities including the following: 1. Facilitate the provision of special education services to students and students at-risk, which is specified by the school's best practices and guidelines. 2. Understands and support teachers on effective instructional strategies for students with disabilities. 3. Articulate and promote high expectations for teaching and student learning. 4. Support co-teaching models for students in general education classroom environments. 5. Coach special education teachers on effective, researched based instruction and data collection. 6. Monitoring special education programs and related services to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations and local policies and procedures 7. Analyze data to establish appropriate goals and objectives in context of improving academic achievement and social-emotional growth 8. Promote use of research-based interventions, strategies, and instruction throughout the school to support students. Participation on the school's well-being team and MTSS. 9. Facilitate special education students’ progress reviews with a focus on data monitoring of student achievement and continuous improvement 10. Monitor, evaluate, and ensure the implementation of Individual Education Programs and inclusive practices 11. Consistently maintain quality interactions with teachers, students, parents, and the larger community 12. Provide administrative support and technical assistance to school administrators, learning behavior specialists, general educators and school teams in the areas of curriculum development, instructional techniques, behavior management, effective educational practices while adhering to school policy and IDEA regulations. 13. Maintain and protect the rights and confidentiality of others 14. Supervise, evaluate, recruit, and interview for employment of special education teachers and related service staff as applicable 15. Promote the success of all students by collaborating with families and community members 16. Welcome parents and seek ways to engage them in their children’s learning as participants of the IEP team 17. Perform additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor
