District Specialist: Behavior Specialist

Location: District Office

Supervisor: Director of Special Education

General Job Description:

The staff member will work with administrators, special education teachers, related service providers, Utah State Office of Education and other staff to implement and ensure  services relating to behavior issues for students in Tooele County School District with IEP’s and Behavior Plans.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or higher in behavior related field given preference.
  • Valid Level 2 Utah license with the Utah State Office of Education as a special education teacher, administrator, or related areas or equivalent licensing with the state of Utah such as Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist or other qualified professional certification.
  • Minimum 5 yrs. classroom or related service provider experience.
  • ABA or BCBA certifications will be given preference.
  • Working knowledge of the RtI/MTSS model.
  • Working knowledge of state and federal rules and guidelines under IDEA to include current LRBI guidelines by the State of Utah.
  • Knowledge and understanding of processes to develop Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans, their implementation and modification.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate activities and services of students with severe behaviors for Tooele County School District.
  • Coordinate and help provide professional development to Tooele County School District related service providers, teachers, staff and others.
  • Work with parents and guardians to help understand IDEA processes as it relates to behavior issues.
  • Maintain a flow of communication between schools, district office, Utah State Office of Education, and parents.
  • Engage in professional development for best practice.
  • Engage in recruitment/retention efforts of Tooele County School District as it relates to IDEA and 504 services.
  •  Comply with all Tooele County School District and Utah State Office of Education policies and administrative regulations.
  • Assume other tasks as may be deemed appropriate and necessary by the Special Education Director and/or the Superintendent of Schools.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to travel to outlying schools within the district. Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 lbs.), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, and moving light furniture may be required. This position may possibly involve physical restraint of physically aggressive students.

Equipment/Material Handled:

Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate multimedia equipment including current technology and other equipment appropriate for the position.

Compensation:

Compensation is dependent upon years of experience. Based on Tooele County School District Certified Teacher Schedule plus 20 additional days.
