Classroom Teacher for Musical Theater Courses

Summary

Syracuse Arts Academy, Jr. High (Grades 7 - 9) is seeking a qualified, enthusiastic and highly motivated Musical Theater Teacher. Primary responsibilities include teaching Musical Theater classes in all grades, including all skill levels from beginner to advanced. Classes should provide students with opportunities to focus on acting, singing, and choreography in all genres. Course materials should be selected to help students comfortably build their stage presence and expand their performance skillset. Live performances are expected regularly throughout the year. The Musical Theatre Teacher is responsible for providing instruction, leadership and supervision to students and parents for one, full scale musical theater production per year. This production will instruct students in the subject areas of theater including music, choreography, stage direction, etc. This position will support and uphold the mission and vision of Syracuse Arts Academy.

*However most school teacher jobs contain elements of each of these typical responsibilities including teaching, student management, administrative tasks and extracurricular activities *To plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential *Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences - this may include explaining new ideas and unfamiliar concepts with authority, and in a clear and concise way so that students can understand *Develop schemes of work and lesson plans *Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities *Prepare classroom for class activities *Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities that meet state standards *Identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet students' varying needs *Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment *Use relevant technology to support instruction *Observe and evaluate student's performance and development *Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments *Provide appropriate feedback on work *Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students *Responsible for teaching musical theatre; including music, choreography and stage direction *Lessons taught should be an interactive learning environment that incorporates public speaking, singing, and dance opportunities *Produce one Musical Theater show per year *Set up dates, times, location for performances and practices *Attend and oversee all rehearsals *Attend all practices during tech week; approximately 40-60 hours *Maintain a communication with parents and performers on a weekly basis *Respond to all communications within 24 hours *Effectively manage program forms, records, and student information *Attend all required meetings as needed *Meet regularly with parent coordinators as well as tech managers for the production(s) *Complete required paperwork and documentation *Communicate regularly with front office dates and times for meetings, practices and performances *Performs such other tasks and duties as assigned by the supervisor
