POSITION: Early Childhood Special Education Teacher (ECSE)
Salary/Hours:
- Pay scale: Teacher Salary Scale: https://www.mpark.net/departments/human_resources
- Position Length: 10 months/200 days
- Hours: Full time unless otherwise specified
JOB SUMMARY:
The Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) Teacher provides special education services as outlined in the Individualized Education Program to preschool students in a class-based program. This teacher also provides special education services as outlined in the Individualized Education Program to preschool students in the community preschools, daycares, and homes. This teacher collaborates with the general education staff at the preschools and daycares to ensure appropriate instructional strategies, accommodations, and adaptations are in place for students with disabilities. The teacher reports to the principal and assistant principal.
REQUISITE EDUCATION AND SKILLS:
- Must hold a Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university. Must hold or be eligible for endorsement in Special Education with the VA Department of Education.
- Must demonstrate effective knowledge of and be sensitive to the needs of a diverse student population.
- Ability to develop effective relationships with students, parents and school personnel.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: (including but not limited to the following)
- Complies with all school laws, State Board of Education regulations, and all policies and regulations made by the School Board and Superintendent.
- Performs all duties deemed necessary by the School Board and Superintendent for the efficient and successful operation of the school system.
- Implements preschool curriculum, develops individual instructional plans and helps select instructional materials and strategies that are individually, developmentally, and culturally appropriate.
- Collaborates with related service providers to plan and implement strategies appropriate for each individual child.
- Guides parents in accommodating their children's needs in daily activities in the home and the community.
- Develops and implements IEP goals, accommodations, and services.
- Provides documentation of school and home visits to comply with program requirements.
- Assesses students' progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals and provides feedback to parents, community preschool staff, and administration.
- Delivers special education services in Manassas Park community preschools and daycare centers by collaborating with general education preschool teachers in making instructional and environmental adaptations to include preschoolers in community preschool and Head Start classrooms.
- Collaborates with community general education teachers and/or parents in managing student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Conducts Child Find screenings, observations, and evaluations to determine development levels and need for special education services.
- Maintains records as required by law, School Board policies and regulations and strives to be prompt and accurate with required records and reports.
- Works cooperatively with the all staff members and interacts in a positive manner with parents and other community representatives.
- Directs instructional assistants, student teachers, assistant teachers, and/or student volunteers to provide an effective classroom program and address the needs of individual students.
- Performs other related duties as may be assigned by the principal, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the ability to effectively communicate and interact with other staff and the public through the
use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment such as, but not limited to, a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions will be required.
