General Function:

Assists school personnel with monitoring student activities and behavior on the playground and in the lunchroom.

Summary and Overall Objective:

Assists school personnel with monitoring student activities and behavior on the playground and in the lunchroom.


Essential Functions Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitors and provides support, encouragement, and assistance to elementary students during breakfast and or lunch activities and on the playground. 

  • Supervises playground/recreational activities, including individual use of equipment and participation in group games. 

  • Assists in maintaining order and decorum in the lunchroom, reinforcing student manners, eating habits, and cleanup procedures. 

  • Assists in providing a safe environment for students during playground and breakfast/lunch periods. 

  • Enforces safety rules, appropriate behavior standards, and school playground/lunchroom policies. 

  • Communicate issues with the School Principal.

  • Ability to assist with and monitor lunchroom and playground areas, ensuring appropriate student behavior. 

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English at a level required for successful job performance. 

  • Ability to help others. 

  • Ability to meet and interact with teachers and students with tact, courtesy, and discretion. 

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out essential duties of this position. 

  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the education, knowledge and experience requirements; the machines, tools and equipment used; and any licenses or certifications required. 


Required Education and Experience: 

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • Associates degree or 48 college semester hours (72 quarter credits) from a college or university; 720 hours on a certified transcript from a technical school or passing results (460) on the ETS ParaProfessional Assessment

  • If the applicant cannot provide evidence of Highly-qualified status as per R277-324-5, the applicant must take and pass Project Para TITLE 1 Modules and Assessments prior to working with students. (There is no cost for this assessment). Applicants can begin the TITLE 1 modules and take the assessments at any time by registering at 


Preferred Education and Experience: 

  • Previous experience in a public school setting preferred.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Expected Work Hours:

  • 6.25  hrs/week  (11:55 AM - 1:10 PM)

  • During regular school hours


Travel Requirements: 

  • Personal transportation to and from school building is required
