General Function:
The Student Health and Personal Care Attendant will assist the registered nurse with the needs of medically fragile students in the severe classroom and in the assessment, evaluation, maintenance, and improvement of student health needs;

Summary and Overall Objective:
The Student Health and Personal Care Attendant provides educational and nursing services in the Iron County School District under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
**This position is temporary and based on student attendance and need.**
Essential Functions Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of, direction, and training from the registered professional nurse, the Student Health and Personal Care Attendant will perform all duties and responsibilities assigned below as well as additional duties as necessary.
G-tube monitoring and feeding
Medication administration
Oral suctioning
Monitoring vital signs
Diabetic management, care, and medication administration.
With appropriate training and certification, administers first aid when necessary.
May provide one-on-one direct services to students as needed.
Cooperates with school personnel in identifying and meeting social, emotional, and physical needs of school children.
Provides first-aid, and maintains health records of students in the severe classroom
Assists in maintaining a healthy and safe learning environment by promoting OSHA Standards relevant to biohazardous materials, hepatitis, and first aid-CPR training.
Utilizes the electronic system for recording interventions and progress notes.
Follows established school procedures for care and reporting of injuries and illness.
Consults with school nursing personnel regarding unusual or difficult problems.
Assists School Nurse with medical procedures as trained.

Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English at a level required for successful job performance.
Able and willing to maintain confidentiality of health information

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, public groups, and/or the ICSD School Board.
Ability to work with applicable mathematical concepts.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to perform mathematical operations using units of American money.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out essential duties of this position.
Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems involving concrete variables situations.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the education, knowledge and experience requirements; the machines, tools and equipment used; and any licenses or certifications required.
Required Education and Experience:
High School Diploma
CNA certification or equivalant
One to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
CPR, AED, and First Aid certified
Experience with gastrostomy tubes, suctioning, oxygen administration and other specialized medical treatments and equipment preferred.
Knowledge about seizure and psychotropic medication purposes and side effects preferred
Job Related Experience:
Required Licenses and Certifications:
Must have and maintain an active Nursing Assistant certification or equivalent.
Must acquire cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid certification with the first year of position

Employees working under this position description are considered to have regular contact with
students who may place the incumbent at risk to bodily fluids.
These employees are eligible to receive the Hepatitis A and B vaccines from the Southwest Utah Public Health Department, at no cost.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job,
The employee frequently is required to stand, sit or stand in a bent or stooped position, walk, reach with hands and arms, use fingers and hands to handle, and talk or hear.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Must be able to lift up to, but not exceeding, 55lbs on an occasional basis. A team lift or utilization of the necessary equipment is recommended if any other items or persons exceed this weight limit.

Expected Work Hours:
4.5-5 hours/day
Travel Requirements:
Regular travel within district required
