The PreK Teacher is the instructional leader of a classroom of 12-18 Toddlers – PreK students with and without disabilities. Each teacher must believe that “all children can learn” and have a commitment to including every child in all activities to develop their fullest potential. Additional knowledge/skills and abilities include:
Knowledge of Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP), early childhood development and the learning process. Experience assessing children and developing, implementing and monitoring appropriate individualized goals using data. Demonstrated ability to work with children with all students: with and without identified disabilities. Strong problem-solving skills Good communication skills (written and oral). Ability to work cooperatively with parents and staff. Job Responsibilities:
Develop a classroom climate where students/staff have positive and respectful relationships with one another and students are enthusiastic about learning. Provide interesting and stimulating materials and instruction for students using many modalities. Use a variety of information to determine the effects of learning experiences on student’s cognitive, linquististic, social, emotional, physical development, independent functioning and approaches to learning. Conduct and document pre and post assessments for all students. Maintain a portfolio of students work for diagnostic purposes and use information to plan and implement individualized and differentiated instructional strategies. Engage in meaningful conversation with students and consistently expose students to a variety of language uses and forms. Foster relationships with families that support student’s learning and well-being including clearly communicating with families regarding student’s progress and maintaining a positive, collaborative relationship with student families. Ensure School Administrator is informed of all parent concerns/complaints. Foster relationships with school colleagues to support student’s learning and well-being, participates in school activities in the support of the vision/mission of the campus, and maintains a positive, collaborative relationship with all campus team members. Maintain a classroom that reflects discovery and use of materials but is generally clean and well maintained, safety measures are implemented and utilizes universal precautions consistently. Collaborate with therapists in developing and implementing Individual Education Plans/Individual Family Support Plan to ensure all students have appropriate access to the curriculum and proven techniques are utilized to ensure individual student success. Ensure lesson plans provide student access to the Florida Birth to Age 5 State Standards and/or VPK Standards (if applicable). Based on Individual Education Plan (IEP)/Individual Family Support Plan (IFSP) track and monitor benchmark and goal attainment. Understand and implement Response to Intervention (RtI) for all students and gather appropriate data for further evaluation. Integrate the Arts and Technology into the daily curriculum. Utilize and ensure consistent implementation of behavior techniques and classroom management techniques including development of behavior plans as needed. Ensure compliance with requirements and guidelines set forth by UCP, HIPAA, FERPA, Department of Education, Department of Children and Families, Early Learning Coalition and other State and Federal agencies. Ensure and provide basic care giving duties (utilizing universal health and safety precautions). Ensure concerns with individual students are brought to the attention of the School Administrator. Supervise assigned teacher assistants by: Ensuring awareness and compliance of policies and procedures; Monitoring performance on an ongoing basis; Inform School Administrator regarding poor performance issues. Assist in developing and implementing Individual Development Plans. Train on the individual needs of the students. Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
