Job Summary:
The special education coordinator provides leadership and expertise in special education programming for preschool students.  The coordinator trains and supports special education staff on the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Utah State Board of Education (USBE) Special Education Rules, and in working with preschoolers with disabilities and their families.  The coordinator supports general education staff in providing inclusionary environments and needed classroom supports for student success.

Essential Functions:

- Provide support to teams to ensure compliance with IDEA federal regulations and USBE Special Education rules;
- Provide support to special education staff on developing IEP's and how to conduct IEP meetings;
- Serve as the LEA representative at preschool age IEP meetings;
- Problem solve with parents on special education, enrollment, and other identified needs;
- Coordinate and arrange for special education transportation;
- Coordinate daily classroom staffing needs;
- Build collaborative relationships with elementary school principals and problem solve as needed on general and special education concerns;
 -Participate in department level leadership team and other district PLC assignments; and
 -Assist with the development and implementation of special education professional development.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

- Problem solving, conflict resolution, team building and communication skills that foster supportive interaction and collaboration among colleagues, preschool staff, district staff, parents, and outside agencies;
- Organizational, scheduling, and time management skills to meet all coordinating requirements;
- Ability to provide effective feedback to preschool special education and general education staff;
- Thorough understanding and working knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), USBE Special Education Rules, and Granite District policies & procedures;
- Thorough understanding and working knowledge of Utah Core Standards for Early Learning, We Can! Curriculum, Granite School District Essential Preschool Skills, GoalView, Utah Preschool Outcomes Data system (UPOD), Easy Trac & Medicaid reporting
- Works independently with little direct supervision.
- Works as part of a team.
- Accepts responsibility and is self-motivated.

Required Education and Qualifications:

- Requires one of the following:

- a valid Professional Educator License issued by the Utah State Board of Education with a License Area of Concentration in:

- Preschool Special Education;
- Special Education; or
- Speech Language Pathologist; or

- an equivalent license in another state or country.

- Experience in preschool special education preferred.
- Experience in working with agencies serving children with disabilities ages birth to five preferred.

Working Environment:

- Work takes place in a typical office environment.
- Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
