Description
Position Purpose
Performs difficult professional and administrative work planning, directing and supervising the development and implementation of a total instructional program for students with disabilities; does related work as required. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Chief Academic Officer. Supervision is exercised over special education coordinators, professionals, teachers, psychologists, educational diagnosticians, therapists and related staff.

- Planning and supervising the implementation of special education curricular programs and related staff developmental activities,
Organizes and supervises the development and implementation of programs, services, activities and curriculum for special students;
Confers with parents and staff regarding inquiries and concerns;
Collaborates and consults with other staff to coordinate the total instructional program;
Consults with and responds to principals regarding special education concerns on legal and regulatory issues, staffing, instructional issues, discipline, attendance zone and compliance issues and parents concerns
Monitors and maintains compliance with state and federal regulations;
Develops, monitors and administers the special education budgets;
Prepares required state and federal reports;
Develops and recommends policies and procedures relating to special education issues;
Plans and conducts professional development activities for staff;
Interviews and recommends special education staff members;
Supervises and evaluates special education evaluation teams, instructional coordinators, clerical support personnel and other direct report staff;
Attends staff, School Board, community group and related meetings;
Performs related tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Comprehensive knowledge of curriculum and program development for students with disabilities
Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of school administration;
Thorough knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in special education process for diagnostic and evaluation procedures;
Ability to develop and present ideas effectively, orally and in written form;
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with associates, School Board members, parents and the general public.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
Works in standard school bus environment.
Education:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in the appropriate educational specialty.
Educational Level: Master’s Degree in Education.
Considerable experience in special education including some supervisory experience in special education administration.
Building Administration level and/or Division Level experience preferred.
Terms of Employment
- Salary: $115,047 - $175,530
- Contract: 12 Months Employment
