The Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (USDB) invites you to consider an employment opportunity with our school. We are seeking a visionary and dynamic individual to fill the position of Occupational Therapist or Certified Vision Rehabilitation Therapist.
This is a full-time position that works during the school year, August through May in our after school residential program.
Principal Duties:
As an Occupational Therapist or a Vision Rehabilitation Therapist you will:
-Facilitate normal motor and social development and play as well as academic performance by providing assessment and intervention for blind/visually impaired students. -Teach adaptive independent living skills, enabling young adults who are blind or have low vision to perform a wide range of essential independent living skills. -Evaluate students' needs and administer therapy to preserve and improve abilities for independent function, such as range of motion, strength, tolerance, coordination, behavioral management skills, social skills, and activities of daily living. -Develop student-centered plans for engaging in the residences, home and community using compensatory, access technology, sensory efficiency and independent living skills. -Provide direct patient care in the clinical setting including assessment, screening, diagnosis, and treatment of students. -Determine the degree of disabilities of the students. -Improve their functioning in daily life activities. May train patients in activities such as computer use, communication skills, or home management skills. -Develop and implement treatment plans to help students mobilize inner capacities and resources to improve social functioning. -Document students' progress and revise treatment plans as required.
