General Function:

Under the direction of the school principal and the school intervention coordinator, this individual will work with students in need of additional academic and behavior support. Establishing and maintaining an effective rapport with students and helping them set and meet goals is a central responsibility. This individual will lead students toward improved academic standing and improved attendance with the goal of fostering greater student independence and responsibility.

Summary and Overall Objective:

Under the direction of the school principal and the school intervention coordinator, this individual will work with students in need of additional academic and behavior support. Establishing and maintaining an effective rapport with students and helping them set and meet goals is a central responsibility. This individual will lead students toward improved academic standing and improved attendance with the goal of fostering greater student independence and responsibility. 




 

Essential Functions Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Mentoring students using the Check-In, Check-Out intervention

  • Work with school administration and teachers to collect, document, manage, and use data to inform student intervention plans, referrals for additional supports, problem solving, schedules and services to benefit students 

  • Use Google Suite effectively (i.e.Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides) (Educator Handbook, Powerschool)

  • Support credit recovery with students that are struggling academically

  • Communicate consistently with classroom teachers, support staff, students, and parents 

  • Provide instructional support assistance to individual students and student groups

  • Aid/support students in developing appropriate social skills to foster academic and behavioral independence 

  • Build a strong rapport with students and guide appropriate goal setting

  • Support and help develop plans for students struggling with attendance and tiered classroom behavior

  • Operate various types of office equipment such as computers, copy machines, etc.

  • Comply with established district policies and procedures

  • Adhere to all local, state, and federal policies and procedures for behavior compliance

  • Must be flexible and willing to work in a variety of schools and settings.

  • Must have the ability to be understanding, patient, friendly, and show a receptive attitude toward students

  • Must have the ability to remain calm under stressful conditions

  • Ability to assist with implementation of the instructional program and to participate in monitoring and ensuring appropriate student behavior. 

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English at a level required for successful job performance. 

  • Ability to meet and interact with parents, teachers and students with tact, courtesy, and discretion. 

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out essential duties of this position. 

  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems 

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions

  • Ability to learn the special needs of particular students

  • Ability to learn and follow rules and regulations as they apply to the job assignment

  • Ability to learn emergency procedures

  • Ability to follow directions

Qualifications:

 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the education, knowledge and experience requirements; the machines, tools and equipment used; and any licenses or certifications required. 

 

Required Education and Experience: 

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • Associates degree or 48 college semester hours (72 quarter credits) from a college or university; 720 hours on a certified transcript from a technical school or passing results (460) on the ETS ParaProfessional Assessment

  • If the applicant cannot provide evidence of Highly-qualified status as per R277-324-5, the applicant must take and pass Project Para Modules and Assessments prior to working with students. (There is no cost for this assessment). Applicants can begin the modules and take the assessments at any time by registering at para.myesu.org
     

 

Preferred Education and Experience: 

  • Previous experience in a public school setting is preferred. 

 

Job Related Experience:

  • Previous experience in a public school setting is preferred.

Work Environment: 

  • The employee will work in our Reset Room where students come for academic, behavior and attendance support  

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

 

Physical Demands:

  • The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. 

  • The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. 

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

  • The employee is occasionally asked to escort and assist students to the lunchroom, the restroom, or clas

 

Machines, Tools, Equipment Used: 

  • Copy machines and high speed duplicators. 

  • Computer technology. 

  • Classroom Technology (i.e., projectors, document Cameras, SMART Boards, etc.)

 

Possible Hazards: 

  • Contact with dissatisfied individuals

 

Expected Work Hours:

  • Up to 5.5 hrs/day 

  • This is a year-by-year position based on funding

  • During regular school hours

 

Travel Requirements: 

  • Personal transportation to and from school building is required
