General Function:

Critical team member as part of the Iron County School District (ICSD)  IT Network and Security department. Perform network projects and tasks (as assigned). Install, terminate, test and repair network cabling. Configure network tools and applications designed to enhance the user experience. Implement wireless technologies. Assist all team members when priorities shift. Respond to network emergencies and requests. Perform daily support and manage (resolve) assigned support tickets. Strive to maintain and sustain the ICSD Network.

Summary and Overall Objective:

Critical team member as part of the Iron County School District (ICSD)  IT Network and Security department. Perform network projects and tasks (as assigned). Install, terminate, test and repair network cabling. Configure network tools and applications designed to enhance the user experience. Implement wireless technologies. Assist all team members when priorities shift. Respond to network emergencies and requests. Perform daily support and manage (resolve) assigned support tickets. Strive to maintain and sustain the ICSD Network.


Essential Functions Duties and Responsibilities:

 
  • Plan and coordinate all new structured cabling installations with subcontractors.

  • Maintain and keep network jacks and terminations in good working order.

  • Dress and organize rack cabling.  

  • Maintain cabling records and label cabling aggressively.

  • Run and terminate new cable drops when required.

  • Install, maintain, and configure wireless Access Points.

  • Maintain wireless access point licensing and management systems.

  • Install network switches; keep firmware updates current.

  • Maintain interoperability and standardization best practices.

  • Assist in project planning for inventory utilizing LAN PoE budgets.

  • Plan and implement Uninterrupted Power Source (UPS) provisioning / replacement.

  • Install new school data closets and enclosures when tasked.

  • Manage network equipment inventory and assist with surplus operations

  • Acknowledged ability to set and meet timelines;

  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion;

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English at a level required for successful job performance;

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals;

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence;

  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of the school district;

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals;

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out essential duties of this position;

  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form;

  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems involving concrete variables situations;

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the education, knowledge and experience requirements; the machines, tools and equipment used; and any licenses or certifications required. 

 

Required Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent.


Preferred Education and Experience: 

  • Experience with Category 5-6 cabling, termination, testing, and labeling 

  • Knowledge of network switching and routing topologies

  • Possess fundamental wireless skills

  • Experience with electrical systems and grounding

  • Knowledge with IPv4 and IPv6 subnetting, network design, and implementation

  • Experience using multiple operating systems: Linux, Windows, and macOS

 

Job Related Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years experience (and consistent with stated “Duties and Responsibilities”)

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. 

  • The employee frequently is required to stand and walk. 

  • The employee may be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. 

  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds (the weight of some battery and UPS equipment)

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.

  • Network Equipment (Routers, Switches, Servers)

  • Network Testing Equipment (hand-held diagnostics)

  • Standard IT and Network Tools (crimpers, punchdown, etc.)

  • Copier Machines

  • Printers


Possible Hazards: 

  • Contact with dissatisfied individuals;

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, equipment, and machinery, with a potential risk of electrical shock;

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but may (on occasion) be loud (the employee may choose to wear headphones or hearing protection).


Expected Work Hours:

  • Full-time 40 hours per week;

  • Generally, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday (excluding public / district holidays);

  • Possibility for days or weeks (or weekends) when – because of access issues or project duration – more than eight hours per day and/or 40 hours per week may be necessary.


Travel Requirements: 

Regular travel within the district (county) is required

Some travel within the state may be required


Terms of Employment: 

 

12 Month Contract
