  5. Familiarity with Migrant subculture.
  6. Experience working in a school setting and ability to work with community and parents is preferred.
  7. Have a valid Florida driver’s license.
  8. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.

 REPORTS TO: Director of Federal Projects
JOB GOAL: To assist migratory children and educationally disadvantaged children in developing skills and experiences that will enable them to adjust and function within the school settings.  Help identify potential dropouts and work along with other school personnel to help these students.

  1. Identify and obtain parent’s signature on survey forms of the students in the community and schools who are eligible for services provided by the Florida Migratory Child Compensatory Program.
  2. Assist migrant families in obtaining health and social services which will support the child in realizing the maximum benefit from his/her school.
  3. Assist program personnel in organizing district Migrant PAC and setting individual PAC meetings in LaBelle/Clewiston.
  4. Submit reports of activities as requested by county, state, and regional offices.
  5. Cooperate with health worker in setting up and maintaining a current file of community resources listing name of agency, organization, and/or individual, the nature of services provided, and the qualifications necessary to obtain services.
  6. Cross-train with migrant health worker.
  7. Identify secondary (6-12) migrant students who are having difficulties in academic classes.?
  8. Set up an after-school tutorial program for secondary (6-12) migrant students who are earning D-F in academic classes.
  9. Transport migrant students for after school tutorial, medical trips, or field trips by official vehicles.
  10. Encourage migrant students to participate in extra curricular activities and arrange transportation when necessary.
  11. To offer English-Spanish translating services for migrant students and parents.
  12. To serve as a liaison between school-home to work with parents/students to:
  13. Alleviate problems and encourage students to attend school on a regular basis.
    1. To set long term goals of high school graduation.
    2. To assist in alternative educational pursuits if student intends to drop out.

     14. To work a flexible schedule in order to facilitate visiting parents after their normal work day.
     15. Establish contact with High School Equivalency Program (HEP) and serve as liaison between students and HEP Program.

     16. To make college bound migrant students aware of scholarship opportunities and assist the students in preparing the necessary applications.
     17. Assist the students in preparing applications for the Migrant Summer Institute.
     18. Other duties as assigned.
     19. Assumes responsibility to report for evacuation shelter support in the event of an emergency and any other duties assigned during an emergency evacuation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Light Work:  Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10.5 months.  Salary and work year to be established by the Board.
EVALUATION: Job performance will be evaluated by the immediate supervisor.
