Classification (FLSA Status): Non Exempt

 

Lane/Salary Grade: Grade 3

 

Location:  Launch High School

General Function:

Under the direction of the school principal, working with classroom teacher/s to assist students who are in need of additional Math support.  Works closely with the Math content team, and establishes effective rapport with students when working with small groups to reteach and reinforce key skills and concepts.

Summary and Overall Objective:

Under the direction of the school principal, working with classroom teacher/s to assist students who are in need of additional Math support.  Works closely with the Math content team, and establishes effective rapport with students when working with small groups to reteach and reinforce key skills and concepts.

 

Essential Functions Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with the Math content team in supporting students in need of reteaching and reinforcement of key skills and concepts.

  • Supports students needing help with classwork specifically in Math and ACT preparation.

  • Support students that are struggling academically.

  • Work with classroom teachers to collect, document, manage, and use data to inform student intervention plans, referrals for additional supports, problem solving, schedules and services to benefit students. 

  • Able to use Google Suite effectively (i.e.Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides)

  • Communicates constantly with classroom teachers, support staff and students 

  • Ensure that student supports are data driven and documented effectively. 

  • Provides instructional support assistance to individual students and student groups.

  • Works with school professionals and other paraprofessionals to build the school's capacity to address student’s academic needs. 

  • Maintains current knowledge and improves skill application by participating in regular on-going professional development 

  • Supports and helps to develop plans for students who have struggled. 

  • Participates in the development, maintenance and carrying out of systems for classroom management. 

  • Guides students in working and interacting harmoniously with other students. 

  • Operates various types of office equipment such as computers, copy machines, etc.

  • Complies with established district policies and procedures.

 

Competencies (Knowledge, skills, abilities):

  • Must be proficient in Math at the high school level (Including Algebra, Functions, Geometry and Statistics) .

  • Must have the ability to be understanding, patient, friendly, and show a receptive attitude toward children.

  • Must have the ability to remain calm under stressful conditions

  • Ability to assist with implementation of the instructional program and to participate in monitoring and ensuring appropriate student behavior. 

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English at a level required for successful job performance. 

  • Ability to help others. 

  • Ability to meet and interact with teachers and students with tact, courtesy, and discretion. 

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out essential duties of this position. 

  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems involving concrete variables

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions

  • Ability to learn the special needs of particular students

  • Ability to learn and follow rules and regulations as they apply to the job assignment

Qualifications:

 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the education, knowledge and experience requirements; the machines, tools and equipment used; and any licenses or certifications required. 

 

Required Education and Experience: 

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • Associates degree or 48 college semester hours (72 quarter credits) from a college or university; 720 hours on a certified transcript from a technical school or passing results (460) on the ETS ParaProfessional Assessment

  • If the applicant cannot provide evidence of Highly-qualified status as per R277-324-5, the applicant must take and pass Project Para TITLE 1 Modules and Assessments prior to working with students. (There is no cost for this assessment). Applicants can begin the TITLE 1 modules and take the assessments at any time by registering at para.myesu.org 

  • Must be proficient in Math at the high school level (Including Algebra, Functions, Geometry and Statistics).

 

Preferred Education and Experience: 

  • Previous experience in a public school setting is preferred.

 

Job Related Experience:

  • Previous experience in a public school setting is preferred.

 

Required Licenses and Certifications: 

  • This position does not require any certificates or licenses.

  • The employee is occasionally asked to escort and assist children as necessary

 

Machines, Tools, Equipment Used: 

  • Copy machines and high speed duplicators. 

  • Computer technology. 

  • Video equipment including VCR, camcorders and TV equipment. 

  • Classroom Technology (i.e., projectors, document Cameras, SMART Boards, etc.)

  • Contact with dissatisfied individuals
