Job Summary:

The English Language Arts / Reading Teacher assumes a dual role. In the role of the ELA Teacher the incumbent is responsible for facilitating learning in the Master Classrooms, and the daily instructional delivery of curriculum, assessment, and classroom management that aligns with the school’s vision, mission, and values while also meeting state and national academic standards. The role will be responsible to understand and demonstrate the importance of effective communication with students, school personnel, and parents. The ELA Teacher assists students in discovering their academic potential, diagnosing student errors and misconceptions, and promotes a positive learning environment. The ELA teacher will also stay current on the latest research on teaching and learning, uses data to drive instructional decision-making and facilitates student’s development cognitively, socially and emotionally.

In the role of the Reading Teacher the incumbent will be responsible for conducting daily Direct Instruction in a traditional classroom setting. The Reading Teacher will provide direct Reading instruction in accordance with the District’s approved Reading Plan and ensures that students receive tiered Reading Interventions in accordance with their individual learning needs. The Reading Teacher in collaboration with the Principal and designated members of the Administrative Team, will ensure that students are progressed monitored a minimum of three times per year (AP1, AP2 and AP3). The Reading Teacher regularly meets with students to advise and plan for students’ individual learning plans, and providing coaching and mentoring in an advisory capacity.

The ELA / Reading Teacher will participate in in-house as well as across schools Professional Learning Communities and will assist with the implementation of the MTSS process with fidelity. The Reading Teacher works as a part of the instructional team in order to meet the needs of all students and collaborates with team members to analyze student data, share best practices and communicates with students, parents, and other team members about students’ progression plans.

Essential ELA Teacher Responsibilities: • Facilitate learning in the Master Classrooms using the approved curriculum for assigned grade levels and subjects; • Grade essay, research papers and open-ended response items while providing feedback to students; • Identify and select appropriate supplemental instructional materials aligned to content standards; • Implement relevant information from research and professional literature on best practice in instruction; • Demonstrate knowledge of state standards, testing requirements and graduation requirements within the core content; • Analyze formal and informal data and accurately complete student data assessment analysis and provide informative reports regarding student instruction and achievement; • Develop short term and annual goals based on identified students need , that reflect national school counselling standards and state program components related to guidance curriculum, individual student planning, responsive services and system support; • Provide essential supervision to students in their education requirements; • Administer benchmarks, formative, and summative assessments to ascertain academic needs of students enrolled in an alternative setting; • Monitor student progress towards graduation; • Maintain ongoing communication with parents, staff, and community as needed; • Become proficient in the use of computer based instruction and software; • Keep accurate documentation regarding student progress, needs, strengths, grades, observations, anecdotal records, and other related data; • Maintain student records and files in a confidential manner; • Contribute to a culture of professionalism among team members; • Other duties as deemed necessary by the Principal Academic Officer;

Essential Reading Teacher Responsibilities: • Improve literacy through listening, reading, writing, and speaking; • Identify, implement, and monitor students level of Reading Interventions needed and students’ progress towards graduation; • Administer formative and summative assessments including benchmark and statewide assessments as per the school and district’s assessment calendars; • Implement the school’s Multi-tiered System of Support and ensure that students receive appropriately tiered instructional support using the identified curriculum and interventions needed; • Progress monitor students and participate in the school’s data cycle and Professional Learning Communities’ Meetings as per the school’s Multi-tiered System of Support Plan • Using the Language Arts Florida Standards and the school’s approved Intensive Reading Curriculum, create and submit weekly lesson plans that are consistent with all components of the school’s standard lesson plan format; • Provide small group instruction to students enrolled in an alternative school setting; • Provide instructional support, interventions, modifications, and adaptations to all students with disabilities in accordance with their Individual Education Plans; • Provide instructional support, interventions, modifications and adaptations to English Language Learners in accordance with each ESOL student’s language proficiency level and their identified instructional needs; • Record and maintain accurate student attendance; • Consult with other content area teachers, special education teachers, parents and students, advising on strategies and activities that may be used to enhance a student's reading skills • Assist in the development and implementation of individual education service plans for students; • Provide essential supervision to students in their education requirements; • In accordance with the school’s reporting policies, keep school administrators informed about the reading programs/strategies and needs of the school; • Keep accurate documentation regarding student progress, needs, strengths, grades, observations, anecdotal records, and other related data; • Participate in district as well as in-house professional learning opportunities identified and approved by the school principal • Other responsibilities or projects as assigned by the Principal or Dean of Academics;
