JOB TITLE:                      District Behavior Specialist (ESSER)

DEPARTMENT:               Special Services

REPORTS TO:                Director of Special Services

FLSA STATUS:                Exempt 

CONTRACT STATUS:     Full-time / 180-days

SUMMARY:      

The Behavior Specialist will train and assist school site teams in applying the principles of applied behavior analysis; assist teachers in creating and utilizing data collection methods and forms to collect baseline data as well as eventual progress from interventions; collaborate with school staff in the design, amending, and implementation of behavior plans. The Behavior Specialist will follow up with teachers and Behavior Support Paraprofessional on progress and assist in modifying plans aimed at continuous improvement for student success.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: These statements are intended to describe the responsibilities assigned to this position and are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required.

 
  1. Work with general education students and students with varying disabilities (autism, ADHD, developmental disabilities, etc.) and their teachers to develop behavior interventions/strategies in the classroom setting.

  2. Conduct assessments (FBA, Social Skills, etc.), develop and implement individualized behavior intervention plans (BIP), and model/train staff to carry out the plan.

  3. Provide ongoing monitoring, analysis, and support of Behavior Support Plans (BSP) and     Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP).

  4. Conduct parent informational training for strategies to use in the home.

  5. Complete summaries, graphs, and other reports, as needed.

  6. Provide training and workshops for staff (administrators, teachers, paraprofessionals, and assistants) across the district.

  7. Coordinate care and efforts with OPS staff to maximize outcomes for students with difficult behavior.

  8. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.

  9. Keep abreast of all pertinent regulations and laws pertaining to the special education program.

  10. Demonstrate fiscal responsibility in relation to school equipment and supplies.

  11. Establish and maintain cooperative relations with co-workers.

  12. Attend and participate in professional activities and serve on committees as required.

  13. Actively participate in professional growth activities.

  14. Perform and assume other responsibilities and tasks as may be assigned by the supervisor.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

 
  1. Bachelor’s degree

  2. Valid Oklahoma Elementary Education Teaching Certificate

  3. Valid Oklahoma Special Education Teaching Certificate

  4. Certification As Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA)

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:  

Great Interpersonal Skills and exceptional time management; Computer literate; excellent written and oral communication ability; strong knowledge of rules, regulations, policies, and laws applicable to education and special education; expertise in Oklahoma State Department of Education regulations related to curriculum and instruction.  Ability to follow all district policies and procedures.  Demonstrating strong communication skills, orally and in writing, with faculty, staff, team members, and administrators.  Ability to work without supervision, and work as a team player.  Ability to document records accurately.  Ability to manage confidential information in a manner that respects students, families, and employees.  Ability to listen effectively.  Ability to maintain emotional control under stressful situations and when working with students exhibiting non-compliant behaviors.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret English language.  

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts and mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

 

REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions.  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. 

 

LICENSES and REGISTRATIONS:  Current driver’s license in good standing.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit at or in meetings for long periods; travel to school sites; and using keyboarding skills, work on a computer for long periods.  The employee may have potential exposure to human body fluids and potential physical aggression from a student that may be related to his or her disability.

Primarily inside working conditions; some exposure to environmental conditions when observing a student outside on the playground.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must have your own transportation to visit all sites.
