Staunton City Schools, located in historic Staunton, Virginia in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley, is seeking highly qualified applicants to fill a Middle School Counseling Department Secretary position at Shelburne Middle School beginning early to mid-September 2022.

210 Day (Employment) Notice.

Start Date: Early to Mid-September 2022.

Hiring Range: $16.70/hour to $19.90/hour DOE/DOQ.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Middle School Counseling Department Secretary

LOCATION: Middle School

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:

Principal

PAY SCALE: SPT 210

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

SUMMARY:

Performs a variety of general office clerical duties and provides assistance with the effective and efficient operations of the school counseling department. Responsible for accurate data entry in the registration and transfer of students, and in preparation and maintenance of student records. Receives and assists in interpreting legal or court documents related to student records. Performs technical work in coordinating the schools’ student information system which may include attendance, discipline, grades and time keeping (KRONOS).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:

The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:

Serves as secretary to the counseling department; provides information; prepares correspondences and related matters; prepares and maintains files and records; assists teachers, parents and students in a friendly, professional manner; Maintains and respects confidentiality of student and school personnel information; Receives and greets persons or groups calling on school counseling department staff; answers telephones, provides information, takes and dispatches messages, as needed; Registers new students/withdraws students; Prepares and sends transcripts to other schools for transfer students; Accurately enters data for new and previous students in student information system; Maintains records and generates reports, as requested; Files incoming records from the elementary school; Operates standard office equipment to include, word-processing, and data processing equipment, copiers, laminators, etc.; Handles a variety of routine technical and administrative assignments; Supports front office staff with tasks, as needed; Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities; Complies with and supports school and division regulations and policies; Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities and; Performs related tasks as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with the school/policies and practices.
